14:47- thank you for sharing how much the project cost. That will help me plan for it. 15:15- I love the treble quality of the glass bowls and the deep quality of the accoustic wood boxes! Thank you for making both of these! I would like to do the same for my home some day! Congratulations on a great video and tutorial!

For those who are wondering, the water bath for the piece is to keep the diamond bit lubricated and the glass cool. If you tried this without the water, the glass and bit would heat up, and the glass would shatter. Also make sure to go slow and only give enough pressure to keep the hole saw contacting the piece evenly. Also, only use bits rated for glass and ceramic. Home maintenance stores like Lowes, Home Depot, and Ace will carry these bits in their tile section.

Actually Ebay was the ONLY place I've found cheap complete 10 or 12 pc(few mm to few cm+) kits. Home depot, Lowes nor even Harbor freight had more than 2 or 3(at most) rather small sizes, I'd guess for typical copper pipe/pex OD's, even "online". & the same went for even Amazon, though that was years ago now. But those diamond cup type are by far the best IMO.
@jackielinde7568 Жыл бұрын
@@realcygnus I had a set of the Kobalt (Lowe's Brand) Carbide tips. Used one to drill holes in glass pieces to hang them as wind chimes. Got to the holes in the cap, and the bit I used broke and took the glass cap with it. Chucked those bits. Have cylindrical bits now. Used them for drilling screw holes into tile for my stove. Worked great. Haven't used them on my glass projects yet.
@realcygnus Жыл бұрын
@@jackielinde7568 Yup, even carbide can do fine for stone & even on most softer ceramics, but porcelain & especially glass pretty much needs diamond. Those pointy diamond bits he showed are certainly OK, especially to reem with, though I've never seen big ones. Diamond dremel tools are nice too for certain tasks. I've cut stone, marble/granite, ceramic, porcelain & glass etc. for years, & a regular small circular diamond blade just like that on any wet saw but just for a 4" angle grinder & those cup type for drills were my main workhorses. If you need fairly large & nearly perfectly round holes, those cup type are the only practical(torchless?) way I know regarding glass. BTW, NEVER try to cut tempered glass ! I learned that the hard way, though I've since seen some vids pretty much proving its not even possible as per physics/chemistry.

I love this design. It’s got a very high-tech look to it, and it sounds like it would be great for techno music. But I can’t not be in love with the deeper, richer, fuller sound of the wooden wave speakers from your previous build.
Both the wooden and the glass speakers sounded great. To me, the glass speakers sounded as though they gave a little more credence to the high end spectrum and the wooden speakers gave more to the low end. I would be thrilled to have a set of either. Excellent job young one, kudos to you!!!

cool one. one observation, the crimping of the terminals is done by putting the terminal with the opening "down" into the forming tool.

If both sets were paired with a subwoofer, I think the glass speakers would be better. They handle the high and mid level frequencies much better than the wooden ones, which are kinda muffled by the mediocre bass. You should make a nice crisp and punchy subwoofer next!
The bass does not resonate well on hard materials, it bounces off, for that reason you could put a redirection tube that points to the front, a high percentage of the frequencies between 45 and 60 will come out. Nice project though and they will sell to people who like the look.
Great work! A pleasure to watch. I recommend to use both pairs in an quadrophonic setup. They seem to complement each other.

Great project! Maybe you will try to make a wooden horn, which will also come out from behind the speaker, bend down and bring the sound forward? It could be both a phase inverter and a stand. It can be made of two halves and glue them together. I think the low frequencies would have sounded better.

Thanks for your comment I can understand what you say well. However. Production of glass speakers prioritized design.

I meant to insert a wooden horn into a glass speaker. Maybe as a continuation of the project.
@thethoughtmaster6 жыл бұрын
The port will not make it perfect because glass is too hard and deflects low frequencies greater than high one's. Bass frequencies between 45 and 60 will increase, though only in the direction of the port.
Next project will have to be even crazier now. Maybe a concrete TL speaker made by casting with a foam insert dissolved out of the cured concrete with some acetone? That would definitely make for some of the most resonance free enclosures I could imagine without the need for constraining layer construction.
I Love the glass idea. Although I am not a fan of the frequency that glass resonates best at. While wood you can get a much lower sub level of frequencies.

From what I can make out over youtube on my system (£5000) the glass speakers are less coloured by the enclosure but both are limited by the driver itself (obviously). Scaled up with good drivers I can imagine that spheres would make a very good sound.

Once again, Japanese craft is proven to be top. Respect on your work but what next? Maybe speakers in marble for the low or non existent resonance? Love your work, thanks.
Not as bad as a poke in the eye. It will sell for the novelty. He could easily get a bendy tube and make the bass come out the front. That is the reason why it sounds less bassy, it is pointing in the wrong direction.

@fuzzybee59886 жыл бұрын

@@OMVDmedia I think I might have seen them before. Glass does not resonate bass as well as higher frequencies, the whole reason why paper cones are so popular. They sound balanced.
@thethoughtmaster6 жыл бұрын
@@fuzzybee5988 Yep, I commented on those characteristic's in other replies lower. The harder the material the higher the frequencies, the reason why they warp quartz valves with pressurised hydrogen to stiffen it so it can pick up radio frequencies that are too high for our hearing, and then they are amplified. In the old days they had to improve the sound of radio's because there was a lack of bass.
