Excellent build with a high degree of precision. You set the depth to 10mm, but on checking you found it to be 9.14mm. Since the build is highly accurate, the depth must have been very close to 10mm. The real reason for the inaccuracy is this: Watch closely at 23:09. As the hole is being drilled, a small piece of wood shaving lands near the zero mark of the scale. The drill is lowered to drill the hole, but the wood piece prevents the drill from reaching the full depth of 10mm. Check it once again making sure that nothing obstructs the full movement of the drill; you should get much better results.
@joseluisfernandez44416 жыл бұрын

Very nice build and your care and craftsmanship were a pleasure to witness, I would say though that unless the drill press is reinforced somehow and braced, it will soon become loose and be incapable of delivering perfectly vertical drill holes as the screws and glue which hold it in position to the base are simply incapable of bearing the inevitable strain to which they will be put. Thank you for showing this to us, I really enjoyed watching you work.
@robertmorin64959 ай бұрын
The drill press looks quite solid. He has routed out a perfect size hole for the drill to sit in and it is being supported tightly on the top with two clamps. The holder is supported by wood screws and it is a double thickness of plywood. I don't remember th last time I saw wood screws loosen up. Plywood does not crack or warp easily and is quite strong. The press should last quite a while and continue to drill nicely if not abused.

Before you buy the plans (9.03 USD) make sure you price everything out that you will need. I did. Prices in Japan must be significantly less than in the US as after pricing the aluminum ($50+ for aluminum sheet for .375 since US dealers don't stock 4mm or 67.00 for 1/2-inch plate (don't buy pre-cut it's astronomical!), pillow linear block LHSSW12 identical to video @ 2 for $68.00 each, magnetic base MB-PG for $56 - $90, Chinese drill chuck another $100+, Guide rail shaft 2 for $10.00, and hex head sockets 10+. If you're keeping track that runs from $373 to $423+. I went to Amazon and looked up Magnetic Drill Presses. There were 45+ just on the 1st 5 pages in that price range already assembled and with warranties and they come with the drill! I don't know about you but I have better use for my time and money. I just purchased a new magnetic drill from Amazon for less than $275.00 which included some bundled bits and other items and that included tax and shipping and I'll get in in 2 days. There is also a serious typo in the plans which if you don't pay attention will cost you over $200 in aluminum if you're not paying attention.

very nice. the only problem that I see is that your very limited on how far that you can bring your wood over against the arm that holds the drill. it would be better if your extended the arm out more so that you can have more room to drill farther away from the arm but other then that it's really ingenious. great work.
