I used to play this game all of the time when I was younger in middle school mostly. I remember all of these tracks very well. During the final week of classes one year in high school, one of our teachers had us form small groups and have a Sim City 2000 competition. We had computers in that classroom. He graded based on all kinds of things, including the city budget. My two teammates just let me take over and we won the competition with ease. I think we got donuts as our reward. I was king for the day. That must have been back in the year 1999-2001 or something. I still listen to this music when I work at my computer sometimes.

@@DrewPan I don't know, it puzzled me, I always collapsed and couldn't find prosperous success as I did in 2k and 3k. The auto street wiring was a bit messy. In terms of ambiance and soul it also didn't reach the godly status of 2000. I was younger and there is a first exposition bias, but 3000 was excellent and brought so much to the table. SC4 however lives me bitter; and worst still, the last version "sim city", I played 2 hours and that's it. It's not interesting and has lost many details and all engagement.
@DrewPan5 жыл бұрын
@@vindieu I think the difference between 4 and it's predecessors is that 4 wasn't designed to build single cities. You had to juggle a nation of cities that help each other. A lot of cities don't have the land available to be totally self sufficient, so you'll have people going to find jobs in neighboring cities, or buying additional water or electricity from another town. I doubt I'm the only person who had a garbage city, whose sole purpose was to burn and recycle rubbish. All its income comes from being paid by other cities.

If you listen carefully, you may spot that absolutely *every* song has a pentatonic-based melody. This basically means it can be played using only the black keys on a piano. If you have no piano skills, try these! This makes all the tracks feel like they "fit" together-but I imagine also made them much easier to compose! It would have been great for the other DOS games I had that have issues with the faster CPUs of today (like SimCopter).

Variusak Interesting :D. I know that nostalgia. I wasnt playing dosgames when I was a child. Just online games :D (I am the new generation :D). But about 3 years before I discovered the dosgames. I played them the most when I had a flash internet with a small capacity (about 10gb) so it was slow and I had to download only small things. I already discovered Dosbox and played DOS games at that time, but I with that slow internet I realized that there is a TON of fun in few MBs. That was awesome. I think i just remembered the Space commander now :D. And RED BARON for sure that was pure awesomnes. But thats not nostalgia. Thats present for me :D because I am still playing that as you can see. BUT I wanted to say that I have that nostalgia feeling when I am watching VHS cassetes. I dont know. Its crappy. The movies are awfully cut to 4:3. I played SC2 yesterday when I had only 2 firemen. Well my city is really big but I had to cut out the half of the it by small water squares (as often... its the best option to put out the fire. They are really rude :D. So to not get "sad" I turned it off :D. Anyway I am just going continue with playing SC2 WIN 95 version (with that great resolution) on a Mac using Win emulator :D. Scomos I dont get the last sentence. But yes. The gameplay is same... or better thanks to the resolution compatibility. You can make the windows as big as you want. It supports my 1280x800 monitor fullscreen unlike the DOS version. That Dos version is only about 480x600 or 800x600. So its 4:3 and its less entertaining with black borders.

pfft I think it's smaller than that when I play the Origin version, I just forget after a while that it's there

+Scomos (Scott Gilmour) one important thing, the Win95 version dropped the FUND cheat - at least every version I ever played didn't have it.

SimCity 2000, and Streets of SimCity. Spent hours messing around on both games growing up.

Great! This is more or less exactly how I remember the music from all those shoulder-numbing 12- or 18-hour sessions. With a few exceptions, SC2000 being one of them, I usually find video game music annoying and turn it off. But this I still remember, note for note. Oh, those memories... I realize now that I haven't heard this for fifteen years. 1997 all over again...

I didn’t play this until like 2005 or whatever, and by then it was very dated. However it really grew on me and this version of the soundtrack makes me feel all fuzzy lol. OPL chips are fun

Yes, almost all modern processors still have MMX, but there's a lot more other features too now like SSE through SSE5.

Classic. The sound and music are so unique. Great game. I would build cities just to watch them get destroyed by disasters. It was dark but fun.

Adrenaline rush after midnight... Refusing overtime just because the city is built right. Working among the airplanes, DC-10s, A300s and 747s then...
