Thank you for publishing those back mount escape options. They're very helpful. I'm familiar with the early escape and at least one variation of the frame escape that Gracie University (Rorion, Ryron, and Rener's newer, larger academy) teaches for their blue belt stripe one curriculum. These techniques have collectively saved me from back mount choke submissions as many times as my partners have attempted it while rolling. If nothing else, I remember to secure my partner's wrists and work toward getting my shoulders to the mat. Like you said in the video, any position is better than being back mounted. These are my essential take-aways from what you taught here, and I thank you again, Professor.

I needed to learn this! Thank you for the great instruction. I would like to note that the videographer should change the white balance on the video from Auto to Fluorescent, or whichever setting looks best in your dojo. The reason being is because the mat constantly changes colors and it can be disorienting to the viewer.

Good video. The only flaw or issue I have with the instruction is that on the first three or four escapes, most back mount situations will not involve the hooks in first. It is usually almost always the seat belt position first. The first four moves only work when playing a situational drill trying to take the back with only the hooks in. The instructor should mention that as a caveat
@KnightJiuJitsu7 жыл бұрын
+liyun sun That’s true to an extent, but during the hand fighting different variations and degrees of looseness happen with the connection. But I️ account for both seatbelt and non-seatbelt options. Thanks!

i like the move where if the guy is a novice and he overlaps his feet in front of you, place the far leg over his top leg and extend your legs...he just gave you an ankle lock. i saw that years ago in an amateur mma match where the guy in back thought he was about to get an easy rnc....and tapped to that ankle submission.

1:07 I've seen Rener Gracie do an escape like this. He just holds on to each individual foot while staying bent forward. If the guy pulls him back his hooks get pulled up and apart so eventually he'd just bail from the back mount.
@FR-ty5vn6 жыл бұрын
Very nice 👍🏼 - great moves. Thanks 🙏. Once you get that arm to the opposite side of your head, there’s also a Brabo Choke as you turn into him. I learned the seatbelt with the bottom hand on top of the choking hand/arm, that way when it is defended against you still have the choking arm free. I noticed the attacker had the seatbelt the reverse way, top hand over bottom one. Is that by design/your preference?
@KnightJiuJitsu6 жыл бұрын
I prefer the bottom hand on top of the top hand for the seatbelt from the back, myself. for this video it didn't really matter when showing these escapes though, so I didn't specify how he did it. Thanks.

Knight Jiu-Jitsu I really appreciate that but quite honestly at the moment my questions would be a waste of time probably for all your viewers. I’m only my first month in I’ve learned a few critical moves and a guard pass etc, but even concepts of the guard and passing the guard and the fatal flaws such as posting arms to mat in the closed guard, and the most basic concepts I don’t comprehend yet because I haven’t been shown them yet... I really appreciate the willingness to help but I think maybe I’m too green to add any quality questions to the channel just yet... I appreciate all your videos because I am learning more every day though.

Just did back mount escapes in class last night. My trouble was that it worked while learning the escapes but as soon as my training partner locked in tight the skills we just learned didn’t work. Any tips?
@KnightJiuJitsu3 жыл бұрын
I think the worse the position you’re trying to escape from, the more sensitivity, patience and sometimes explosiveness they require. If you’re trying to escape back mount, then person just needs to hold and stop you. The escape happens better when they are concerned more about getting the submission and less about positional control. So I guess what I’m getting at is try not to force the escape and try to get them focused on several things and divide their attention. Hope that makes sense.

At about 7:15, you have that straight arm, what’s preventing you from arm barring him across your chest? Especially if you turn your body a little away from him? Yes you’re giving him your back a little, but if you have his right arm he shouldn’t be able to get a grip around you. Still a white belt n00b so what am I missing?
@mark61154 жыл бұрын
Yes, armbar there but better to pull it over your head and put his elbow against you chin ,and pull side ways. My favorite sub if I get my back taken apart from getting them to cross their hooks and me getting a foot over it :)

Lots of good stuff here. I was a little concerned about the last one insofaras you are falling to the head on pillow side, even with the 2 vs 1 grip. But I'm presuming you are giving a worst case scenario for when you're being dragged to that side. Overall would it be better to attach with the 2 vs 1 to the underhook side?
@KnightJiuJitsu7 жыл бұрын
+Ronald Scott You’re correct in that I’m going by early to late on the escapes. I don’t want to be in any of these, but I try to address them in order of how bad/late I have to escape. The last is the worst, in my opinion and I would definitely not choose to go there if he didn’t force me there.
@jpreis20127 жыл бұрын
I am not a black belt yet, so take me answer with a grain of salt. But I think that if you try the 2 on 1 escape on the underhook side you give the opponent a free armbar, as seen on the Werdum vs Harris fight. So I think its better to try it the way professor Knight showed. :)
@KnightJiuJitsu7 жыл бұрын
Haha! I appreciate that. And I would definitely say every escape has an element of danger to it, requires lots of practice too. Thanks a lot, João!

You give them an armbar if you do not control the arm properly. You should go to tricep control asap to avoid the armbar. Staying in the hand/wrist grip is the problem. Also, they can guillotine you with that grip. I use the 2 on 1 with the scoop and don't get armbared or choked. Also, I end up choking them with a brabo / darce or anaconda. Hope that helps.

5:26. Why mess around? Perfect opportunity for an elbow to the groin, fight is over. Also you don't show the two easiest and most effective breaks for this. One, the ankle only has about 60 to 80 deg ROM. You have both hands free, and his feet are right in front of you. Do I really need to tell you to torque his foot to the outside? You can easily break an ankle like this. Second, reach up and grab his ear, you can easily tear it off. On the same vein, you can gouge an eye. He can lose an eye or ear or break the hold, his choice. You'll probably say something like "but that is against the rules", but I am talking practical application. After all, BJJ is often touted as "the ultimate street fighing technique". Well it's not, I just taught you three ways to break BJJ s strongest submission hold and end the fight. Owned
