I raced downhill mountain bikes (and a bit of BMX) for years before starting jiu jitsu. I quit racing competitively due to the inescapable occurrence of regular injuries--I just got tired of breaking bones basically every other year. These days, I'll ride downhill at bike parks a couple times a month since I still love riding for the adrenaline / fun factor; however, not always pushing the limits of control to get as much speed as possible means way less crashing lol. Now a purple belt since 2019, BJJ is much safer and meditative for me. It engages my mind in a very different way and I love it. Hoping I'll be worthy of my brown belt before the new year 🤘
