LOL the dislikes on this are either people who never took martial arts, or they are the instructors of a martial arts class.

I was going to comment about how much your understanding early requirements change the longer you train, and how important the basics are... Even how the forms/Kata are opportunities to focus on refining the subtleties of each move/block/punch. Then I refrained... Then I read your post... I have my black belt in Tea Kwon Do, and to your point... taught for about 3 years...

@@joshuaspromise "Tea Kwon Do" Are you sure this is how you spell that and not "Taekwondo"? But idk maybe "Tea Kwon Do" is just a more british version
@joshuaspromise5 жыл бұрын
@@miroko8477 Good catch, well played :P I think it was technically Tang Soo Do, but they're all in the same neighborhood. Fun fact, a lot of martial arts take on the name Tae Kwon Do and Karate, not because that's what they are, but because those are the names that most people are familiar with... There are even a lot of "Karate" studios that actually teach Tae Kwon Do.

To me, this just sounds like bad schools and Japanese Jujitsu . I do BJJ and don’t do most of the stupid stuff you say you did. The “practice falling” we do is practice when we get pushed, and it helped my father when he was in a burning building (he is a firefighter) and he could see that the floor underneath him became a set of stairs and fell. But the katas, we don’t do, and the kiai is sometimes used, and it actually actually does help, but we only use it when striking, nothing more. Granted, our head guy’s head guy who is retired was one for not sticking to tradition and using actually useful stuff. Thank your reading my TED Talk.

I'd say the world got its revenge on jiu-jitsu instructors when MMA became a big thing. As annoying as some of the Brazilian jiu-jitsu related comments are here, imagine how many times jiu-jitsu instructors have to deal with the BJJ crowd. Every time a new student applies, they probably have an awkward conversation that begins, "so, um, you know there's more than one type of jiu-jitsu, right? No please don't leave!"

I was listening to this and was so confused that they would do some of the things that they do... overall funny video xD

I’ve done both Japanese and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I went to 3 different clubs, when was Japanese, one was Shogun and the last was Brazilian. Now I’ve stopped. In the Japanese, I stopped at Yellow belt. Shogun i stopped at Orange belt and in Brazilian I stopped at Green belt. It was pretty good. Overall, I liked Brazilian the best while I hated Shogun because my sensei only cared about money

Jiu-jitsu(or at least the one practiced here) is different from the martial art I did for over a year. I did a mixed martial arts called Bok Fu, which is a combination of way too many martial arts to name, and is basically a no-holds-barred way of fighting. Pretty much everything mentioned in this video was also practiced in Bok Fu, but just less stupid. I still needed to do the kiyahs(don't know how they're spelled), but we didn't need to do them so "scare our opponent", it was just to enhance our breathing so that it would be harder to run out of breath during a fight. We also had katas for each belt level, but we didn't need to do a stupid introduction. The kata itself was pretty much the same, but I never felt stupid while doing it? I don't know, maybe it was the way it was explained and the practicality of doing them, but my peers seemed to share the same mindset I did. If you're going to want to learn how to fight with martial arts, a mixed martial arts is probably the best way because the more well known martial arts(like jiu jitsu) while useful, aren't going to be as good because they are heavily geared towards sport, not actual fighting.

@Luck is Me: Sounds like this experience was in a martial arts school that was run to make money but didn't teach competently. This is the first of your videos I've seen so far, and it was hilarious :D Do you still train in any other style or method of martial arts? I'm hoping to teach martial arts one day at an MMA gym once I move several months from now. I've trained in various styles, but due to a bad back injury I had four (almost five) years ago, I can't do all the moves I used to, so I'm looking to train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as it has been recommended to me by others with back pain. Anyway, sorry for the lengthy message, but I look forward to seeing more of your content. Great stuff! ^_^
