I had a friend who was a boxer. Je was amateur, but he had a lot more experience than me. I'm not even an official wrestler, but I've always been good on the ground. He always thought he could keep me away with his fists. One day, I challenged him, and he stood no chance. I closed the gap. Took a few light punches to the shoulders and back, but he was in a tight spot within a few seconds. Later, he asked me to teach him some groundwork in return for some striking knowledge. I obliged. Although I'm no expert, I feel comfortable in a fight. Grappling/wrestling is the way to go, but know how to punch and kick.
@qweee3913Ай бұрын
I have to disagree, about a year ago I did not know any grappling at all but I knew plenty of kickboxing, I challenged a guy to sparring who was very good at BJJ but knew almost no striking. We sparred a few rounds, each round he'd look for a take down, which I expected, so I kept throwing kicks and jabs to keep him at range, even when he did get ahold of me, he wasn't really expected for me to keep throwing elbows and punches instead of grappling with him, eventually though he took me down and at that point it was very easy for him to get a submission. But that was after a few rounds and I honestly felt like I could've pushed harder and knocked him out easily cause his striking defense was really bad
@eynjay8046Ай бұрын
Yeah well that’s dependent on the fighter, but my best friend did varsity wrestling in high school for like 4 years and he can’t take me down because I’m way faster and explosive than him😂 my little brother is a better boxer than me and absolutely destroyed him. Lucky for BJJ guy that this is a sparring match with restrictions. He didn't eat a knee or an elbow, the top/ back of his head or neck was not attacked; no one wrapped three fingers around his larynx, or bent his fingers/toes the wrong way....etc. BJJ is great within its realm, but it is not the "magic bullet" so many act like it is. 🥋
