I started training Gracie Jiujitsu because of the street fighting aspect of the art! I grew up in the Eastend of London So I needed something that could deal with all aspects of fighting.. (with no rules) but the thing that has kept me in good stead has been the Head butts & elbows from the clinch.. and situational awareness! I’m so grateful for the art whether sport or street! But I’m definitely all For the street Gracie Jiujitsu side of the art!

Thanks for commenting and I definitely think all martial artists should be well rounded and I'm glad to know you are enjoying your training and keeping it real.

@@macaluso48 you're as delusional as people who think tai chi or wing chun would work in a street fight. GJJ brown belts wouldn't be able to hang with a regular BJJ blue belt. GJJ people barely train, get ranked on attendance and don't even spar till blue belt. And the sparring is terrible. The strike emulation isn't real either. At most, the bullyproof system is good for kids. Take it from me, I've trained in both.

So basically Gracie JJ makes more emphasis on the mindset that your opponent is coming at you with the intention to kill with or without weapons?
@markcukrojiujitsu232212 күн бұрын
That's a fair way to look at it.

@markcukrojiujitsu2322 Does the Self defense put emphasis on training stand up grappling and preventing yourself from going to the ground?
@markcukrojiujitsu232211 күн бұрын
@@Charles-nc4zj Yes, whenever possible, avoid going to the ground and if you do, get up or get on top quickly.

Gracie Barra Is still in gracie lineage or diverged from It? I know about rivality between carlos gracie and the other members of gracie family, but did carlos got another style?
@markcukrojiujitsu2322 Жыл бұрын
They were all Gracie Jiu Jitsu and had family rivalries but would stick up for each other, fight with each other just as so many families do. Now the Gracie name is all from the same original lineage but many of the siblings and children have a dscerning difference in their name Gracie Barrs, Gracie Humaita, Renzo Gracie, Carlos Gracie Jr., Roger etc. Same roots but now different branches and approaches to what they focus on. It is a BIG family.

Gracie Barra has an organized self defense curriculum too.

Sport BJJ looks flashy and cool but it's sport. It's not self defense. No concern for strikes. They think they're also learning self defense because it's BJJ but it's not. I'm GJJ all the way because I'm a self defense guy, first. I started as a (sports guy unknowingly) because BJJ is all the same right? I'm about practicality, efficiency and natural body movements. They are creating all this new exotic guards and submissions to win (like a nuclear arms race) because the way we do jiu jitsu now is MISSING something???

Thank you I enjoyed watching this video and I get a full understanding. I was curious because at the boxing gym I go to a certified Gracie jujitsu instructor teaches a class and I was interested in learning Jujitsu to learn some ground game so I can have my striking and grappling.
