Outstanding review even 6 years later! My 1998 MSR Whisperlite International just shit itself (the pump) and I am looking at replacing the whole shebang. Thanks for all of the great info on this 4 part series. You include information even the retailers aren't aware of, and it made the decision a no-brainer.

+lonestarrider Thank you brotha! I like this stove, but I also like MSR stoves... I'm thinking of doing a video after this series talking about my thoughts on having a single jet vs. multiple jets on my stove. I have some interesting ideas. Have a great evening!

The Brunton vapour AF did all of this 10 years ago. One jet for gas and liquid fuels no need for an adapter to go between the two and it packs down smaller than this. 10 years of innovation only added the self cleaning nozzle.

Nice ot comes literally with everything for maintenance without buying extra and includes small bottle, and the fact the pump is polished metal compnents...nice!

+Bearded Seabee 82 I like this one, but still like MSR whisperlite universal better! Thank you!

JIUJITSU2000 Why do you prefer the MSR over this one? I have a dozen stoves already but want to buy this Optimus. I also own the MSR Whisperlite Universal, so I'm curious as to your reasonings for the preference. Thanks~

Love the review. On the point of the reason why MSR has more threads, its because of their plastic fuel pump. The Optimus doesn't need it because they are all metal.

I just got mine and I see something "brown" like oxidation where the black pipe meets the brass body - I notice you got the same thing. Is that normal? Is that a what a new stove looks like? Is that from brazing the two metal together? Also: brown coating in the green bottle - I think I can see it in the video, especially noticeable at the bottom where I have a streak dried up? (Way nicer construction than anything I've seen in stores)

Looks sturdy, could it hold a dutch oven? It's gone from my stores so I couldn't see it in person - hence asking.

These dogs have strong pop supports but anytime I put a pot or item that's heavy on them I generally set that item on bricks that are the same height that the pot stands

The fact that it uses 1 jet, does that mean that it burns more fuel since it's not "engineered" for any specific fuel? Did you compare with the other stoves you have? I'd be curious to get that info.

It's a fantastic stove. The MSR Whisperlite Universal is more fuel efficient.
@cubul324 жыл бұрын
@@jiujitsu2000 Is there a number, % approximation? Are we talking 1% or 25% - how much more efficient? Everybody says efficient, but nobody puts an estimation on it. I suppose that could be a deal breaker for some.

Plan on doing a head to head between this and the MSR universal? ,,

Could you not just use propane with an adapter?

.4l is internal volume. .3l for fuel and .1l for pump once inserted.=.4l.
