JJ Cale was on another level. What a great singer, player and song writer. Better than any of the crap on the radio any day. We need a revival of music like this and keep the garbage off the air waves. This is real music people!

Still what a shame he passed away! But we also could have a positive approach like the Argentinians toward their tango icon Carlos Gardel, who died in a plane accident in 1936. Many people there say that he died in 1936 but that he sings better every day. Indeed when I listen again to J.J. Cale I often have the impression that it sounds better than the previous time I listened to.

26 year-old John Mayer watching with admiration at 0:19. Less than two years before this June 2004 festival (August 2002), my wife and I saw John headline in Portland with Guster and the John Butler Trio. We were both 51 at the time, and I remember looking around the venue and wondering if we were the oldest couple in the crowd. That's J. J. Cale's wife, Christine Lakeland, on acoustic guitar in front of Mayer.
