As a general rule, I disagree with the acceptance of “harsh” criticism because they are “paid like professionals”. First, no one deserves the kind of criticism that if probably happening. There is a vocal minority of @$$holes who justify their behavior just because these kids earn more than they do. Anyone whose craft is put on public display is subject to criticism. Even before NIL, it was okay to be critical of an athlete that puts themselves out there on TV on a weekly basis. Being fair is fine. Being an @$$ to kids because you’re jealous of how much cash they earn for being more famous just makes you a jerk.

Can’t disagree with it put this way. But I don’t really treat anyone like a jerk. Here’s the difference for me. Let’s pretend 5 years ago if I was doing this show and we had our current team. I feel like I am more apt to criticize a few players on field play in a way I wouldn’t have then. I don’t think I would have been comfortable saying things Gee should not be the #1 te or CJ Hicks has played very poorly and should not be close to snaps with Arvell. Those are 2 young guys in there 20’s earning a living now. That’s a “pro”. In the past I would have guilty saying something like that. I still do to be honest. But I also think it’s fair and not intended to be derogatory towards them. Just my honest opinion based on different reasons for each guy and the amount of talent around them at those positions who are playing really good. Maybe the problem was with my view 5 years ago or maybe there is an issue with my view now. It’s ever evolving because first and foremost I care about all these guys and want them all to be successful. Because of that I try to be respectful because I have a microphone in front of me and one time an opinion on a player got back to him. It was on a live and it wasn’t well thought out by me. I wished I had it back. So did he. It’s more challenging than I expected, I’ll say that
