I think the answer to your question is: technical capability. These arcade platformers usually look, play (framerate wise), animate and have effects way better than a home console could pull off at the time. I think some games might of had home ports planned but just never got a publisher or just couldn't be scaled back enough to keep that arcade feel. Game back then were also made with a lot of pride and passion. (Not to say games aren't these days but back then there were plenty of wannabe breakout companies going all out on a passion project and a lot of them failed. The idea of "playing it safe" and making things to target demographics and yearly refreshes and reused engines weren't as industry standard as they are today)
@retrovortex6244 жыл бұрын
You think SNK made all those home console ports yet still had their own consoles despite that being a bad financial idea. The reason is because they felt the SNES and Megadrive wasn't really good enough for their games. I mean of course they wanted to be the leaders of home console too but if wasn't purely a market control profitability ideology. And those ports were often very solid home console ports too. But they weren't to that arcade standard SNK strived for. Capcom flirted with the idea too.

Another great detail about this game: Much like _Contra_ and _Gradius,_ this game has a second loop, which makes things even *harder.* If you think that the game was too easy for some reason, then beat it once, and then try it again. Good freaking luck.

Romancing SaGa on the Super Famicom did something similar to the boss whose HP is linked to the time of day. The final boss in that game starts during the day with a solar eclipse in the background, but as you damage him more and more it slowly transitions to night until he's dead.

Excellent, inspired, and very fun game. To me, this was always a Ghouls 'n Ghosts reskin (changeable weapon drops, platforming is also similar) Also, the original PCB is *incredibly* rare and sells for $3000+ when it shows up once in a blue moon. Luckily, there are conversion PCBs and bootlegs which are a bit more reasonably priced.
