If I'm remembering correctly, that laser sound is the exact same sound as the Enterprise firing a photon torpedo sound in Star Trek a Final Unity by Spectrum HoloByte for PC. On SNES it was Future's Past and on Genesis it was Echos from the Past. But Sega made their version themselves instead of Spectrum HoloByte making it. I'm like 99% sure that's the photon torpedo sound.
@drzerogi

Yep, and the sounds was also used in the original show. If fact it was used in a lot of '80's cartoons.

@Gappasaurus

The sound predates all of these by decades, check out the SFX from the 1953 War of the Worlds movie: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poSUgpSmpNSNqK8m02s It was used for the green pulse weapon from the wingtips (for lack of a better term, since they weren’t actual wings) of the ships as opposed to the beam weapon of the periscope eye, which used a more iconic sound: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poSUgpSmpNSNqK8m35s If Trek & all later uses didn’t directly reuse the sound, it was definitely derived from it 🤓

Loved this game as a kid, always wanted to see the end. Eventually years ago an arcade i lived by started a promotion were Saturdays from 8am-12noon $5 gave you free arcade games, $1 pizza slices, half off Lazer Tag and 75% off mini golf. So once the doors opened at 8 every time you walked up to a game we'd tap the credit button like it was killing a boss and then play through the whole game. SNK vs Capcom was new, DDR was still kinda popular while Guitar Hero was just taking off, initial D was fresh, NFL Blitz Gold, Gauntlet Legends, also this Quake\Unreal Tournament looking shooter that had 8 or 10 cabinets linked for live multiplayer "Death Match" competitions....🤯 then they stopped that special and have since focused more on the Water Park that has been incorporated.😐 It Was a Glorious 2years.😄👍

Even though GI Joe originally started with 13 Joes. I believe only a small handful of them have greater significance becoming "fan favourites". I've noticed that Duke, Snake Eyes, Scarlett & Roadblock are shown to be featured the most on games, comics, the shows & even the live action movies. From this 1992 game up until the latest game Operation Blackout together with the 1st Wave of the "Classified" toyline still features these 4 Joes even after almost 30 years. I don't know about you but I'm personally convinced that Duke, Snakes Eyes, Scarlett & Roadblock are the "Main Joes". After all they've always been "fan favourites". They certainly are my favourites along with other majorly significant Joes such as Flint & Lady Jaye.

I love this game. Played it once in an arcade as a kid and could never find it again. I was so happy to find it on the Pandora's Box. It's a great game to just sit back and relax with.

I found a copy of this cabinet only once so far, at an arcade in Astoria, Oregon. When I went back there last winter, it had closed :(.
