And that, my friends, is exactly why the fetishization of vigilante justice is a problem, because of stupid people who think the complexity of real world problems is somehow equivalent to fucking comic books
@RiderWithTheScarf Жыл бұрын
But the whole point of game Wraith is that Yuri was hypnotized, had a super-spy gang destroy her team, torture her men and all because they had superweapons and a maniac who could deflect bulelts along with a psychiatrist paid by international mobsters to screw the entire department; for a PD that was shown to do work(in-game, in-story, with Jefferson, with Yuri etc.) blaming the system on the fact that this was so out of their capabilities, is harsh(in-game talking). Jameson's statement has a tragic irony in it, rather than him being oblivious to why people would be like Wraith, given the context of the game's world; Yuri became Wraith because the police can't face the threat of super-powered maniacs with infinite budget and the tools to mercilessly kill every time the 6 stooges decide it's time have a slap fight with the spandex version of Kumo Otoko. Or as someone above said, "Bro, this is a video game".

And becoming a vigilante isn't helping. All it does is give people a false sense of security by patching up the problem without actually fixing it.
@Ash-Winchester8 ай бұрын
@@samuelsoliday4381 Exactly. If vigilantes actually spent their time addressing the economic circumstances that lead people to commit crimes instead of maintaining a capitalist status quo that permits these problems to exist, they'd be able to do a lot more good for the people said systems keep down. Unfortunately comic book companies are crammed pack full of liberal writers who point the blame at "bad individuals" rather than the unsustainability of hierarchal institutions of authority that concentrate power towards those at the top of said institutions and the capitalistic class divide said systems tend to create. That's how we end up with the infamous "You gotta do better, senator" from Falcon and the winter soldier as well as the villainization of revolutionaries and leftists like in Mortal Kombat 1 or The Legend of Korra. I know those last two weren't comics, but they fit the trope.
@samuelsoliday43818 ай бұрын
@@Ash-Winchester That reminds me of a quote from an anime villain. Feel free to skip if you're not interested. The TL;DR of it is that heroes give off this fake aura that convinces the general public that they can handle everything that goes wrong. And as a result they don't feel the need to do something when it happens right in front of them. The end result is people like him who wind up resorting to villainy in a world that rejects them. And that the heroes' inability to understand that is the reason this problem even exists. "You pretend to embody all that is good. Your kind is always the same. Every generation. You pretend you don't see those you can't protect, and cover up the pain you caused. Always thinking of yourselves as righteous. This world has grown so rotten it's infested with maggots. It happened little by little. But your mistakes added up. The coddled trash got used to being protected, while you took advantage of these so-called victims for your own profit. Everything that I've ever known. Everything in this world you built rejected me. But not now, I'm the one who's rejecting you. That is why I destroy. That is why I keep gaining power. It's simple isn't it. And yet, you just don't understand. The fact that you don't get it is why we have heroes and villains."

This was a good reminder that JJJ doesn't hate Spider-Man for being a hero, he hates him for being specifically a *masked vigilante.* There's a reason why you never hear him shit-talking the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D, actual government entities: 1, they don't typically hide their identities, and 2, they are actually operating within the law instead of outside it. Fair perspectives, if not necessarily ones I agree with.

I wonder how Jonah would react to Batman considering Batman is also a masked vigilante who like Spider-Man is responsible for the creation of a lot of his villains but Batmans approach is much more effective in general and he's much more serious about it unlike Spider-Man who is always running around in braud daylight dressed in bright colours and making jokes all of those things being perfectly reasonable reasons to think that Spider-Man is just doing it for clout
@manat3179011 ай бұрын
Batman has unlimited resources, has friends within the police department, and does everything Spider-Man does with fewer smiles and quips. Jonah would not treat Batman any differently from Spider-Man. And it's not just about having a vigilante swinging around a city. Jonah doesn't have a good opinion of any traditional superhero, period. Even if you put in Green Lantern or Superman there, he would hate them all. This is because Jonah's underlying problem isn't actually his idea of social order: it's his inferior complex and jealousy against anybody who can do more than him. Jonah is an anti-Perry White by design. Whereas Perry is a strict editor-in-chief who believes in the truth and justice for humanity's greater good, Jonah is just a sloppy, selfish, or misguided a-hole who's using the press to mask his insecurity and try to make himself look credible despite that he doesn't grasp the full picture of anything.
