Meralgia Paresthetica (“Numbness of the Thigh”) | Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment
Meralgia Paresthetica is a mononeuropathy (one nerve affected) condition involving pain and numbness/tingling sensations of the thigh (mostly on the side). This condition can be caused by a variety of other conditions including obesity, diabetes, and hypothyroidism. In this lesson, we discuss the pathophysiology behind why this condition occurs, along with the causes and risk factors, the signs and symptoms, and how it’s diagnosed and treated.

Thank you soooooo much that is exactly what I have I'm going to show your video to my primary care doctor omg. The exactly same symptoms, numbness , the itching , the burning sensation on the outer thighs and I had gastric bypass surgery done in 2004 I'm sure taken this further. Thank you sooooo much

I have this! However, it doesn't cause pain. I get a prickling sensation and numbness, and the prickling is more uncomfortable when standing/walking, but it's still not what I would describe as pain.

What should one do if the leg feels heavy and causes hip pain with stiffness? Need to make adjustments for that?

The treatment options seem limited, except physio therapy but thats also temp relief and comes back 😢

I acquired this the morning after my cardiac ablation procedure where they accessed my femoral veins ( not arteries). It looked like they poked me several times on each side. It was very painful. White hot stabbing pains above my knees that morphed into burning and numbness bilateral thighs. I did not get much help at all for one solid month and a half. Misery.
