I had Encephalitis as a child, from measles, it took forever to get well again, couldn't walk, understanding of every day life was difficult.. I did make a very good recovery, but it took about a year!. and I lost so much schooling. The most annoying long term problem is memory!.. I can't remember much as a child and obviously, a holiday, family activities even today gets easily forgotten!.. but sometimes, if people talk about the event, it sometimes jogs my memory.. my lack of memory is annoying..

My husband caught viral encephalitis 20 years ago. He still struggles. His speech and his memory. He also had a stroke a few days after the spinal tap. He also had one pupil that was bigger then the other for about a month afterwards. He also had a pic line put in and I really wish when a family is sent home with a patient with permanent brain damage that there was more support. Like okay thanks for saving his life but you docs just sent me home with a huge folder the size of a book 📕 with follow up appointments and instructions and flushing out his pic line but you sent me home with a complete stranger? 😳 My husband couldn’t even remember my name and I was 8 months pregnant with our 1st son? It was crazy! But we eventually got through it. Was extremely hard and difficult but it took 5 years before he could begin to drive and eventually get a low waged job. He bused tables for a long time? When before he used to fix computers but lost all memory of remembering any of that? But love ❤️ and faith in God got us through it eventually.

Post-hospital stay care has been streamlined by all the financial interests now involved in medical care. Its disgusting. I'm roughly 50, and i grew up as involved with dad's practice as a kid could be, e.g. on weekends i would go with him to the hospital and i was often at the office, so i got to see how care was done. I didnt understand a lot of his complaints but i distinctly remember the things that bothered him most like when his malpractice insurance told him he cannot barter goods and services for his medical care. If people couldnt afford his recommended treatment pathway, he would often accept their artwork or something along the lines of their career so they could. And of course

@@trentbrady8829 wow thank you Trent for sharing you story with me. Yes my husband still has brain fog too. He get really irritated easily. It’s almost like a he can’t take too many people talking at once? And can’t be around family functions without extreme anxiety which makes his words set jumbled up. Even still today 22 years later? So I completely understand where your coming from. Sending you many blessings my friend.

I hope you don’t mind the inquiry…but my sweet 8 yr old pup died a few months ago, according to the necropsy it was from bacterial encephalitis. She had a minor dental procedure about 5 weeks earlier and developed swollen lymph nodes. Vet prescribed course of antibiotics/anti-inflammatories. After two weeks, she wasn’t improving and her symptoms became neurological. She passed shortly after having a seizure/coma. Ironically, when JoJo got sick, both my hubs and I had Covid. Any thoughts on her becoming ill from either and subsequently developing encephalitis? It’s so hard not having a possible answer to this awful puzzle. Thank you.

I was unlucky to get Japanese B Encephalitis in 1979 whilst serving with British Forces on the Hong Kong Chinese border.. I acquired it from mosquitoes (Dead Pigs) all around our location. I was admitted to a military hospital on the 20th July 1979 10 days Coma. and was released in September 1980.. I have to this day a Flacid left arm with subluxed shoulder girdle and I’ve lost all the major muscle groups across my upper body. Right arm functions below the elbow. Can’t raise either arm above my head. Left leg was affected slight wasting their. The problem which is driving me mad, is that I can’t stay asleep, 3 hours max… I had memory problems to start but recovered well, no real brain function problems Unless its causing my insomn??

Hey , I’m hoping someone can help, if not that, atleast give me some hope. My mother was hit with herpes encephalitis last year, it was very scary. She went into a coma after she vomited this black substance. After we were told she had herpes encephalitis, the first thing we noticed was her memory. She called me “ John” is her brother, and my sister “ Angela” which is her sister. Her memory was obviously altered. A few weeks later, her memory improved to the point where she now knew I was her son, all of our names and all the obvious information about us; here’s the thing though, I’m 35 now, and when I was in my teens and low 20’s I was a menace and not the best son, addicted to alcohol, drugs you name it. Towards my late 20’s and early 30’s I really changed my life around for the best, became a better son, father and brother. Regardless of my past my mom always had my back, no matter what I did she was always there for me, to the point it made my sisters jealous because I seemed like the favorite lol….My mother sees me now and does not like me at all, almost a disgust for me. she only remembers the bad times. I tell her all the time that what she is remembering is from over 10 years ago, but it’s almost no use. Even in my dark days she never “ disliked me”. So there is a huge personality change and huge memory loss, she forgets stuff from 2 hours ago and can only remember to do something 2 hours into the future. It’s been very frustrating for my dad. She’s just so different and it’s killing my dad slowly. They’ve been married for 30+ years. My dads day consists of staying by her side, trying to jog her memory, arguing with her that I am not a bad person and why she thinks this way about me, dancing with her multiple times ( that’s a huge personality switch, she never likes to dance but it seems to keep her happy), reminding her about things she forgot and talking her out of committing suicide. We keep telling my dad to be patient, that she will improve and she will come back to us, but now, I’m the one who needs hope. Is there anyone who give me some information on whether she will improve, will she be like this the rest of her life? Will she just improve alittle?…. It really saddens me because she was the absolute best grandmother in the world, she adored my kids, they were her world. There wouldn’t be a day when she didn’t ask how they were doing and when she could see them, now? I would be lucky if I ever get a call from her period smh. The most devastating part is, my sisters finally had a baby, 5 days after my sister gave birth to my niece, she was hit with this awful disease smh. So they may never experience what I experienced between her and my kids. If someone has words of encouragement, anything, I will appreciate it.
