Post craniotomy I couldn’t tolerate metoprolol. For some reason before surgery a doc put me on a different heart medication i can’t recall. 70 here. So when a new doc was treating me she said that metoprolol was a better medication for my blood pressure and prescribed it. I had severe diarrhea ( these types of discomfort always appear in the wee hours of the morning when you desperately want to sleep). I went to my doc and told her to take me off this med. She reluctantly did. She said diarrhea is not one of the common side effects and I was her first patient to have this reaction. To prove she was right, she asked me to try it again to see if I got the same results. I said, no thank you, and walked out. I then am assigned to a cheeky cardiologist. She never heard anyone presenting with diarrhea from metoprolol and wanted me to try 10 mg. Very convincing specialist. I tried and I presented with diarrhea again but not as horrendous as the all nighter experience. Frickin docs think they know it all. I just wished I had used a party hat in the commode and brought her a fresh sample in a 16oz glass jar with lid.

He suggested Valsartan and worked with my primary and compounding pharmacist to make me Metoprolol drops to be gradually withdrawn over 6 weeks. It is a nasty drug. But if ppl continue to indulge process food, junk food they are not helping themselves. I’m on this med to lower my BP and going back to a healthier lifestyle of eliminating all these things that causing me health problems and not having to rely on drugs. You are so lucky.... I had to go to the ER out of network . I was having complete organ failure from medications. They took me down to two medications. Still sick from medications but, so much better. This medication also causes brown fat to form in the body. It cause neuropathy. My feet and hands were burning so bad that I could barely walk. I personally found that b complex and Co Q 10 helped a lot with my feet and hands. Each medication can help you in some way; but, it takes something out of the body or stops the absorption of something that the body needs to be healthy. You need to find out what it is doing to your body and correct it with supplements; working with a good doctor that understands nutrition and how the body works.

I took myself off of it. Side effects were terrible. The doctor would not believe me. That taking two morning and two night. Changed the heart doctor and they wanted me on three in the morning and three at night. Not caring about how bad my side effects were. Now I'm walking up and down stairs.,breathing better, not choking on phlegm,. I can sleep without night terrors

My heat rate use to race everyday and sometimes several times a day. Metoprolol would always bring it back to its it's normal rhythm. After I took my 2nd covid vaccine my heart went into uncontrollable rhythm for almost a day. After that it went back to it's normal rhythm. My heart never again raced into the old usual almost 200 bpm for the past 2.5 year's. And since then I haven't needed metoprolol.

It was prescribed after a heart attack 6 months ago. I gained 12 kg ever since. That is, despite only about 1500 kcal/day and daily medium exercise. Beta blockers are known to slow the metabolism down to an almost grinding halt in many patients. I'm going bonkers seeing 2 kg added every month and no end in sight. I must find an alternative.

I was on Metoprolol for a few years . I get breathing problems about 30 mins after taking it, reminds me of when I had Asthma. So I asked my doctor to switch to something different. He put me on Bisoprolol, it's suppose to be better then Metoprolol, but if you look up the sides on line it as well has a lot of sides, one of which it puts weight on you and I am not for that :( I can't Win sadly, so last week I went back to Metoprolol last week. I am starting to try out Hawthorn Berry and Nattokinase to see if that will help. My blood pressure is always high, nothing I take never seems to help keep it low.

In that aspect it worked great on helping with anxiety, but I don’t like the other side effects. Tired, doesn’t control my BP as well as Losaran did, dizzy/lightheaded… I love it and I hate it🤷♀️

I'm looking for a heart doctor now. My regular physician told me they will keep an eye on me and take care of me. And they understand what I was experiencing because they saw me on two. They see the dramatic change when I took myself off of it and now I only take one in the morning and one at night. They have given me some references but they all failed in my request of getting off of the medicine and putting on some other medicine. They don't pass my questioning I don't accept them. So I'm still looking for a heart doctor

I was given Metoprolol prior to surgery in 2012 to remove a thymoma. The cardiothoracic surgeon said it would help prevent fibrillation if he accidentally touched my heart during the surgery. After the surgery my primary care physician left me on it because I had mildly elevated blood pressure. A dose of 25 mg Metoprolol tartrate twice a day has worked well for me with none of the side effects listed in the video. I understand that this is less than the normal initial dose for treating high blood pressure.

The reaction of doctors is to prescribe a drug....it's an automatic reflex reaction...I went to the doc for a non heart related issue and when they check my BP if was 157/85 ,I had just walked at least 1/4 mile and up steps to get to the office and had no time to relax...of course it was high....that wasn't an accurate test...then I was put on a heart monitor for a couple of days (which the results were never discussed with me)....life style change and diet was never discussed with me..I was just the next in line..

In October last year I was finally put on Metropolol 25 twice a day plus a calcium blocker, It's working for my IST which was really bad but I am dizzy all the time, passed out few times since my BP was literally staying at 90 over 60, but the worst one for me is the blurry vision. Without it my heart rate goes crazy, and my anxiety is like my shadow, with it l can hardly function. Oh on top of that l have to take it at specific times since l have to take Synthroid 150 due to having no Thyroid ( lost it to cancer ) and apparently Metropolol and Synthroid can't be taken at the same time.
