What is your view on a semester system vs quarter system? Also, is it impossible to own a car as a UC Berkeley student who would live in the residence halls? THANKS!

Spicy Kielbasa I prefer the semester system! It gives you more time to adjust to your schedule and actually learn something in class. The quarter system just goes by way too quickly, you are constantly having midterms and finals. It is possible to own a car as a UC Berkeley who would live in the residence halls, but to buy a parking pass/permit is pretty damn expensive!

JKBeauty08 Thanks for your reply. The semester system sounds better to me also for the same reasons you pointed out. I was accepted to both UCLA and CAL, but CAL accepted me for Spring '16 instead of Fall '15, which kind of sucks because I have to wait till January. I already submitted an SIR to CAL because it's been my dream, but nothing is in stone till June 1st. I'm sorta second guessing myself.. but anyway On CAL's website I read that they won't even sell you a parking permit if you live within 2 miles of the campus. So that's why I was asking about having a car and living in the residence halls. I saw some craigslist ads for people renting out their garages off campus for parking.. but it's like $200 a month. Do you leave campus a lot? Do you even really need a car? I'm thinking with all the work I'm gonna have to do I won't even have time to be doing stuff lol.. Just stressing out because I have to make up my mind. Thanks so much

Spicy Kielbasa Congrats on getting in to two great schools! I occasionally leave campus on weekends to go shopping or to check out San Francisco. You don't really need a car because Cal has an awesome public transportation system. All students receive a bus pass every semester, which allows for you to take all of the public buses for free. They go pretty much anywhere around the bay area, even SF! There is also the option of taking the BART, which is fairly quick and inexpensive. Luckily, Cal is also located in a college town that has plenty of amazing restaurants and stores located very close to campus, so you can walk or bike pretty much everywhere. You'll never be bored!

Luis David Sánchez Hey! You do not need a 4.0 GPA to get in to UC Berkeley; however, you do need a fairly high GPA along with community service, sports, and other extracurricular activities. It may be very difficult to get in to Berkeley without Honors or AP classes, so I would recommend taking community college classes to prove that you are capable of handling higher level courses.

UCLA: LA, sports are huge, off campus dorms, Westwood, cocky people, heat, traffick, bougie rich people area UC Berkeley: Bay Area, homeless everywhere, protesting every week, San Francisco, fog (Carl), not as sunny, weird people who dgaf, diversity, rigorous and competitive af, berkeley goggles ( lower your dating standards) I chose Berkeley for the fall (class of 2021!!)
