@Northeast Texas Gardener ok first of all a “Lear jet” to people who know planes it is a basic jet there not even consider a “high end jet” and they are basic tools lol just be you can’t use them or to broke to have one once again doesn’t make it not basic. I put money on it that if you needed a planer you could call someone to use it or buy one for 200 bucks dewalt has a hand one....... lol mr gardener just stop and go back to your green house and leave the tools to us men.

I made 3 of them with an hacksaw, a hell of a job but in the end I made it. I built a grid of 8cmX4cm slot for a total of 220 slots using a 3cmX1cmX100cm wood. I used a total of almost 99 meters of wood! :-)

All you had to do was KZbin search “Hot Wheels Display Rivera” 😁 first I made one that holds 150 cars. Then I made 2 that hold 180. Then I made one that holds 216 cars! That one is massive! I like the display you made. Poplar frame and nice backboard. Legit 👌🏽 Love your assembly table!

Did I see a moving trailer backed up to the garage? Being a fly boy figured it would have been made out of something like elm, mahogany, maple, western red cedar, cheery, I kid I kid. Turned out great thanks for sharing.

Those orange 90 degree angles are a fantastic idea. I have never seen those before - custom to this type of application to be clamped on the inside of frames. If I were to search for those to order what would I call them? There also were some type of wire clips used briefly....

The grid is friction fit. I did use CA Glue on all the intersections.

What dimensions did you cut the strips for car placement?

The strips were cut 2” wide by 46.5” long for horizontal pieces. The vertical pieces were cut 2” wide by 24” long. The dado on the horizontal pieces is 3” and the dado on the vertical pieces they are 2”.

Great job. I made similar but made the mistake of using hardboard for the sections and it broke apart too easily on the dado cuts during assembly. Plywood next time! Could you let me know your spacing on the dado cuts on the 40 and 20 inch pieces? Thanks

You don’t need a router or dado stack. I used a single blade and made two passes to get the right width. The router just made fitting the back better. Not required.

Looks beautiful... considering the same thing only with shallow stop dados or whatever they are called in the poplar trim pieces that would allow the edges of the outside columns to be supported as well as lock the entire floating grid in from behind, once the back is installed. Or does that all sound unnecessary? just worried about the unsupported edges of the outside columns.
