Very Nice. Technically this is Jun Fan Gung Fu and not JKD. Sifu Bruce stopped doing this stuff himself and we are “preserving dry land swimming to some degree. As there is value in it, I struggle with the idea of being a JKD practitioner and doing any forms. When at Inosanto Academy I do it while in class, but never on my own or teach this material.

Technically, Jun Fan Gung Fu is the base art of JKD, so if you do not practice or know Jun Fan, you are simply mixing arts but not practicing JKD. As for forms, saying you don’t believe in them at all is like saying you only believe in writing full paragraphs but don’t want to learn syllables, words, phrases, or sentences. Of course once you have mastered basic movements, you should express them freely, but a beginner cannot do that. Therefore, any good teach uses appropriate tools to equip practitioners with the tools they need to fully express JKD. Even Bruce Lee practiced forms extensively and approved of Sifu Dan Inosanto teaching them at the LA Chinatown Academy, privately, and in the backyard classes.

Actually, if you look carefully, all of these movements are simultaneous attack and defense, so for every block, there is a strike or counter. This is far superior to passive blocking alone.

This is NOT Jeet Kune Do. This was created to catalog the Jun Fan Gung Fu, which is completely different. What makes this Jun Fan Gung Fu is the fact that it is a form/catalog. This was organized after Bruce Lee’s passing at the Inosanto Academy. As Sifu Bruce situplated, there are no forms in JKD. The most important thing to do is not do this much. Just like the Mook Jong, you have to take the parts and train them. Doing this in the air will not help you in a live situation where someone can attack in any way they want. Yes, we all look good when someone feeds us the exact shot with zero intensity, but that is for demonstrating and teaching. You must train against active, real, progressively harder resistance or you will never pull any of it off for real. I am certified by both Guro Dan Inosanto and The Late, Great Sifu Larry Hartsell, currently in Palm Desert, California and driving distance to The Academy. I am All About That Life so just ask if you don’t believe. I only teach privately for those interested.
