Boxing is essential for combat in my opinion . As you said, it's what works for you is what works . The art of hitting and not getting hit . With boxing skills you can spot and avoid punches and counterpunch . Add in footwork , balance its better than half the crap that is out there. There are so many targets to aim for on the anatomy. Nose, neck , ears , temple , chin , jaw , solar plexus , ribs , groin, or whatever the case may be . Fitness to add to all that .but its not the be all and end all of fighting. Its good to dabble in other arts . But have your foundation as boxing .

@@cesarjkd8379 good point. We plan to revisit the issue…especially since so many of us today don’t know the history of bare knuckle boxing or the London Prize Ring rules, for example.

With all due respect, I personally believe that the best thing boxing can offer in a real life situation is footwork along with a few powerful punches. That's it. Wouldn't dare myself to move my body too much to 'dodge' his punches, since the opponent will have more resources, i.e. kicks, grabs, throws, etc. And for the U movement, better use your legs more than bending at your torso; otherwise, you'll end up seeing the ground like you said one shouldn't do but still did in the video
@JKDandWingChunАй бұрын
@@hernannoriega5436 thanks for the input. As for your points, each person has to decide what works best for him. I will say, however, that head movement is often a very good option for a shorter self-defender. More still, in virtually all self-defense attacks the aggressor isn’t throwing kicks and knees anyway, but haymakers. The “dirty” tactics of using forearms, headbutts and low blows add to boxing’s already formidable arsenal. Imagine Tyson or Chavez hitting low and pushing people off-balance to set up more punches. That’s the idea. Anyway, like I said, each person should have solid fundamentals and know what works best for them. Thanks for watching
@hernannoriega5436Ай бұрын
@@JKDandWingChun That being the case, I totally agree on the idea of dodging haymakers for body shots. Nevertheless, let's remember it's a moving target what we're talking about, so you can't just dodge every single time. Good positioning is way more important, and for that one must develop good footwork. Also, since fighting is tiring, one must make every movement count, not just evading punches. Body shots are good, but they're only one piece of the puzzle. Like I said, there are other elements far more important than dodging, like appropriate footwork and positioning. That aside, I'd like to tell you, Mr. Jason, I appreciate the energy you show in your videos! Very interesting content

When I was in highschool we had a bully who did karate, legit karate....he picked on a kid who did boxing...that led to a fight after school....the fight was over with literally one jab... I am not saying that's the norm... But people underestimate how good boxing can be for real world self defense....a good jab to the face or cross to the solar plexes drops the average person..... I think there's a reason why there are so many other martial arts that have adopted boxing structures into their systems.... Look at the Thai boxing today and look at Thai boxing 40 years ago.... Look at savate today and look at it 40 or 50 years ago.... Boxing is underrated My two cents As always great video brother

What are you going to do without your tape? Boxing is a lousy martial art. If it’s so great why didn’t they use it exclusively in WW2? They knew better!
@JKDandWingChun29 күн бұрын
@@thihsareb Hi. First, bare knuckle boxing never used wraps. Second, the military absolutely did and does use boxing. Jack Dempsey, for example, trained WW2 troops in exactly the type of dirty boxing we’re discussing in the video. Classic boxing (again, as I reference in the video) was much more robust - including takedowns, for instance - than the modern sport version. Lastly, and as per the point of the video, modern sport boxing and historical boxing aren’t the same thing and that used to be more well known. As a base system it’s wonderful and allows trainees to develop timing, accuracy and grace under pressure. Past that, when coupled with foul tactics, it’s a very effective system. Thanks for watching and for the input.

@@JKDandWingChun my dad boxed in the army. He taught me some when I was seven years old. I still ended up getting my ass kicked. I hate boxing. I used to get beat up until I learned Karate.
