I gotta say, I've been pluckn around with guitars for years and even had a few lessons a long time ago. I never was able to grasp the whole music theory thing other than figuring out what sounds good to me in my fumbling though familiar note and chord progressions. I am terrible a playing the guitar but I feel just after watching a few of your uploads I have already vastly improved my understanding of music and how its is reproduced onto an instrument in this case the guitar. Thank you for your efforts to create these lessons and I look forward to watching every one of them. I gotzs ta say , you gotz skillz!

These lessons are probably the most important aspects of theory for any beginning or even intermediate player needing to understand the guitar to confidently write and play songs. This will also help to figure out most popular songs written. A great simple approach. This is the way that I teach my friends who pick up guitar or bass. Breaking down key signatures will help you unlock the repeating patterns on the neck of the guitar. You will begin to understand the pattern of majors with whole step intervals and minors that have half step intervals. These will help with chord structure and solo melodies.

I just donated to your page. I have been teaching myself guitar for a very long time. Over the years, I had managed to learn all of the open chords, and then, I went on with my life, because fuck barre chords. Barre chords have always been a pain in the ass (aside from B minor for whatever reason...I could always just play that one, and change to either G, D, C, E, or A without issue). Anyway, I always blew barre chords off with the rationale that you could play any song with open chords. One day last week, I watched one of your other videos, (The G-C-D trick) which led me to these music theory videos. I have been checking out your stuff for a few days. Now I understand the reasoning behind using barre chords, such as moving up and down the neck without having to change finger placement when switching chords. Now, I practice barre chords every day when I get home. Obviously, you give a shit about passing on knowledge. So I decided to give a shit about what you do and give back by donating. That being said, I am probably the laziest person on the planet. So if it took any effort to donate to your page, I wouldn't have. All I had to do was click on your name, sign into Paypal and throw you a few bucks for the time you are putting into this. Anyone who watches these videos and gets better should do the same.

Great lesson!!! Very well presented.... Some of these concepts take a while to understand... Kind of like Calculus, though once one understands it, it's pretty straight forward, but again, it was very well presented... I got a little question... Here in Bolivia, musicians tend to not use the system of ABCDEFG, etc... but they are always talking in terms of Do-Re-MI-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do.... Now, when they talk in terms of that, they will refer to every C-Cord as a "Do" even if that particular C-Cord is played within the key of G.... I've always taken this Do-Re-Mi... etc scale to be one that moves with whatever scale one plays it at... Sort of like you illustrated with the key of E and some others... Am I correct? Many times I have to talk in their musical language... So, when I talk about the G-Cord, I have to call it a "So" even when they are playing in the key of G... (I hope this makes sense) BTW, I would like to take a few SKYPE lessons, but with the Bolivian internet, at times, I don't know how this would work and it is never reliable....
@jkehew19 жыл бұрын
+Kees Boer Hi Kees, sorry I haven't returned your call yet ! Yes, the way I was taught we change the Do_re_mi concept for each key. So C is only Do when we're in the key of C. In the key of G, C would be called Fa. Regarding Skype lessons, I understand your concerns about the internet. It's not always reliable within the U.S.!

STOP WASTING TIME !!!!! Y would you repeat the same things 2-4 times?????!!!!!! Yes we f*cking know that the notes repeat on the 12 fret it s simple as you have 5 fingers on your left (AND SURPRISE !!!!!!) 5 fingers on right hand !!!!!!!! Less spam, more straight forward.
@jkehew19 жыл бұрын
Kirill Bezzubkine Hi Kirill, THANK YOU for your comment. For a few years now I've been posting these videos wondering when someone would notice that I repeat important points and talk as if the viewer was a beginning guitar player. Instead, everyone leaves really nice comments and they keep subscribing. Now I'm filming new videos because these website guys convinced me that with 32,000 subscribers I should start my own website! And I own a music school in my town where I teach people in person - I treat a lot of them like total beginners ! And no one ever complains, at least no one has the guts to. So that's why I'm glad you wrote what you did. Because it shows that at least one person out there really watched one of my videos and is brave enough to stand up and call me out on my teaching ability. Keep fighting the good fight and know that you're making the world a better place.
