Dalton, I also had absolutely 0 frame of reference for Johnny Vander Meer and guessed 1972 while playing along. We're in this together.
@quantumfootball10 сағат бұрын
The Reds and eventually some other teams started playing night games in 1938. Vander Meer had the luck of facing the Dodgers and the Giants in their first ever night games in back to back starts before they had realized that they needed way more lights in Crosley Field if they were going to keep playing night games.
@kevincleaves36794 сағат бұрын
I cried. Dalton thought Vander Meer was on the Big Red Machine. Crazy.

It's interesting, because a lot of stats always have the caveat of "Since Integration" i.e 1947, so I'm surprised Jolly nor Dalton got it

Would love to see more of these. Lucas, as for events to use, I’ve got some suggestions: The year the first player reached 3,000 hits The year Pete Rose passed Ty Cobb all time hits record Picture of Bobby Thompson Shot heard around the world at polo grounds Year the Saint Louis Browns move to Baltimore or year the senators move to Minnesota Year that the gold glove or silver slugger was introduced Year that Bob Allison and Willie Mccovey win ROTY Year that Cy Young reaches 500 career wins Year that Hack Wilson sets the all time single season RBI record Year that Goose Goslin hits for the cycle (‘24) Year that Ted Williams bats .406

Spoilers below My score: 21 points on 7/9 questions. 12 points on the Bobby Shantz/Hank Sauer question 52 points in the Jim Vander Meer question. My lack of knowledge of baseball history is so bad that I couldn't be fooled by the Babe Ruth number retirement pic. I guessed 1939 because I figured that probably roughly when he retired. I also got one off on Ricky Henderson because I thought he retired in the mid to late 90s.
