Three baseball minds compete against each other to draft five starting pitchers and three relief pitchers plus a team where they racked up K's to try to total the most strikeouts by the end of the draft. Once a team is drafted they are then off the board.

Nah, it's just like the homer drafts--you can slot them into that position if that was where they were the majority of the time. Smoltz was a starter who saw some time as reliever. You get credit for all Ks a pitcher had with the team. Whether they are a starter or reliever in the rotation depends on where they spent the most time.

I'd love to see a 9-man roster draft of lowest WAR. Basically, the worst value lineup would win. This would call on a different branch of overall baseball stat knowledge. Also, Jolly, you are a handsome man and I find the overall value of any JM video goes up whenever you're present. Keep being awesome, sir!

Got an idea to keep the home run/strikeout draft going. Before every episode, you pick a team for each person (maybe by a wheel spin, so it’s random) and they have to build a lineup/rotation with players from that team in a specific year. Basically like how you’ve been doing the drafts, but with teams

This is interesting because there's plenty of all time greats with a lot of strikeouts, but most of them played for multiple teams and so didn't compile an insane amount with just 1 team. Randy Johnson in his 10 years with Seattle and 8 years with Arizona has fewer strikeouts with each than Sandy Koufax in his 12 years all with the Dodgers despite Randy having a larger K/9

Editing note: please leave the graphic of the scorecards up on the screen for longer. I know we were kinda trying to wait for the big reveal at the end but it’s fun to at least kinda try to figure out the math on the fly. Maybe just flash it on the screen for like 2 more seconds each time.

I wouldn't have picked Nolan Ryan because I wouldn't have known which of his teams, if any, would put him into solid starter territory. Also, I thought Dave Stieb would've been a lot higher than Roy Halladay, but he clears him by only 163 strikeouts across their respective Blue Jays careers. And no Joe Nathan Twins pick? C'mon guys, it's only 561 strikeouts but still.

Ryan's legend was cemented in a Rangers uniform, but the foundation was put down elsewhere. Fun Fact: Those 939 SO came in the last five years of his career, between the ages of 42 and 46. Funner Fact: One of those was a 300 SO year in 1989, his first since 1977. Nolan Ryan was a fucking aberration.
