After her massive success with Jagged Little Pill she was overwhelmed by it all. She went to India and got things sorted out for herself, hence, this song. You fully understood what this song was about - letting go and being honest with herself. This is a favorite song (of many) of mine by her.

You nailed the themes of this song, perfectly. She traveled to India and it was a transcendent experience for her inner growth.

I believe Alanis would be quite impressed with your insights on this song, I know I am. As usual.

I love that bridge: "The moment I let go of it Was the moment I got more than I could handle The moment I jumped off of it Was the moment I touched down"

@jons.105 I love this song… what do you think those lines mean? Those are the only ones I don’t really understand (specifically the 1st and 3rd lines)
@jons.10510 ай бұрын
@@saraohara2504 The first two lines, I think, mean "I let go of my support system/my identity, and now I'm overwhelmed" and the next two lines could mean, "I jumped from this sinking ship, and now I'm back on solid ground."
@saraohara250410 ай бұрын
@@jons.105 Interesting!! Yeah that makes sense
@saraohara250410 ай бұрын
@@jons.105 I was just thinking that maybe it could also be interpreted like…. The moment I let go of my music being my only purpose and instead got distracted by & sucked into the fame machine was the moment I felt like it was all more than I could handle…. And then, the moment I jumped off of it - off of that machine, or the moment I removed myself from that superficial chaos - was the moment I could refocus on what really matters & find solid ground & find a wiser version of myself…. I don’t know. I think you put it better & more simply… never mind 🤣

She did this song live on SNL and it was amazing. I'm a hard rocker to the bone but her music transcends style and is very unique.

At the Live show my three children all said Alanis reminds them of Bob Dylan in lyrics and mannerisms. I said.... You know, I agree. She has a unique way of making her points known.

This is a beautiful song! After her dizzying success of her album Jagged Little Pill she was overwhelmed. She took a trip to India and found peace and realization.

I don't think this video had a lot to do with her fame fading a bit. I think it was the fact that her first album was so great that there was nowhere to go but down.
