So the creatures in this are based on Balinese folklore. The Leyak are humans who practice witchcraft and cannibalism. They haunt graveyards feeding on corpses. They have large teeth and a long tongue. Basically by seeking the witch she became a leyak too. The fact the witch shows herself with a mask representing Rangda, the queen of leyaks, means she wasn't just an ordinary witch. During the night the Leyak can detach their heads and entrails from their bodies to fly around, searching for pregnant women to suck the blood off their child. The movie is accurate to the folklore, is the folklore that is weird

@@blakeriley8546 yes they are very similar in appearance i guess. I mean, probably legends and superstitions travelled together with trade in that area of Asia, like in the rest of the world. Its movies like this that make you realize we in the West have a fairly boring set of cultural mythology and legends... don't get me wrong, I love Celtic and Germanic mythology since im of such ancestry (and some of its nuts)... but some of the Southeast Asian and Indian mythology is next level WTF'ery. I think the tooth picks in the neck is basically, if her head doesn't attach by morning she dies or is trapped in the other form and will eventually die, its like how Vampires in the West die from exposure to sunlight and have to sleep in a coffin filled with the dirt from their grave and people would stick sickles or blades around the neck of a corpse in a coffin so that if it woke up it would cut its head off and be destroyed etc. There needs to be more mythology from those regions in movies and TV personally... so much untapped potential. "I would like to think so"... me and Erin basically shared the exact same 'what' face at the exact same time...

@@JasonBrant I suppose you could say so. It was a movie cobbled together by three different directors. Each one directed one third of the movie. It was all centered around one plot though, and from what I recall it isn't like they played out where one part began and ended and you could tell that one part of the movie was different from the rest. It is kind of hard to describe because it melted part of my brain. I also have recommended Rubber in the past. A movie about a sentient tire with telekinetic powers. Yeah, you read that right. And then for pure schlock that needs to be seen to be believed it is a thing: Attack of the Killer Donuts. That movie makes Birdemic 3 look like a masterpiece.
