This tiny desk was POWERFUL from start to finish!! Thick belting in the first song, then the wizard's voice; I really enjoyed the dynamics he displayed, of course Avery showed off his range. The Tin Man was smooth and sweet and the Lion's growls were well placed among his range of notes. Then when Dorthy composed herself and channeled her emotions into her delivery drew me ALL the way in. She made me want to know why her tears were flowing, where is home for her and which lyrics resonated most with her and why. The musicians were fantastic, too!! This was a wonderful display of talent. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Also, fyi, in regards to the moment with Nichelle. Her mother was in the room, standing right in front of her when she began to sing “Home”. So if you could just imagine what that may have been like…she was thinking of the meaning of the song and “home” was there, standing right in front of her…it made her emotional. 🥲

The mama's song at the beginning of The Wiz is highly underrated. This lady did amazing. Avery be running for his life. MJ's version will forever have my heart but knowing I've seen Avery live and new and now he's here. So glad to see him getting recognized because this is a big ole deal. The brokenness I hear in the Tinman's voice, hit me in my core. Reminds me of Donny Hathaway and he slightly favors Nipsey Russel. I love it. Lion betta c'mon and emote and growl. He owned every bit of that. Seeing this young lady tear up before singing 'Home'...🥹. Its such a precious moment.

19:47 OOOH lord I almost started crying with her LOOORD this song is so emotional for me as well AND when she said she was nervous...UGH! as a singer with anxiety it HIT! 22:08 23:04 YUP! that's why I hate when people point out imperfections in a performance. the whole reason they're so nervous to perform in the first place is because they know people will harp and make fun of those things and disregard everything else about the performance you may have did well.
