Have you watched the video of her performing at Royal Albert Hall? She’s amazing!

Cynthia Erivo's vocal performances are a combination of talent and years of technical TRAINING. It is MORE than just being intentional. Anyone can be INTENTIONAL, but if you do not have the talent or training, you will not render a performance such as this. Erivo does something today that almost no other singer in the Pop Music genre does: She merges her stellar classical singing and Musical Theater acting training with Pop and Soul vocals. Most of Erivo's vocal performances are almost "technically" flawless.

100%. Celie in The Color Purple musical is one of the most vocally demanding roles out there and that was her breakout performance that first brought attention to her talent and won her the 2016 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. And now she will be Elphaba in the Wicked movie musical. Another vocally demanding role. You'd have to have that sort of training to be able to even perform those roles at a professional level in the first place.

Miss Erivo, NEVER disappoints. This woman is up there with the Greats. I love that she doesn't do all the runs and riffs that a lot of these artist are doing these days. She is like those singers of the past because they would sing the song...and Dionne and Gladys have both said that in order to make the song believable is to sing the lyrics, because if you don't, it takes away the integrity of a song...Just like if say, if a singer would add riffs, runs and adlibs to this song it would take away the nature, meaning and integrity of this beautiful song. That's why when you hear singers today do songs like this and they try to do it their way, half the time you don't recognize the song because they do wayyyyyy to much. Miss Erivo did an EXCELLENT Job in interpreting Alfie. I loved this performance....so did the audience and especially Miss Warwick...she did her justice.

If you look back at the history of the song, it was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David for the movie "Alfie" starring Michael Caine as a total cad who had women falling off him, begging for his love, while he refused to settle down with anyone, love and relationships being something that cramped his style. This performance encapsulates every nuance of the story line singing as one of those enamoured women who is trying to get him to understand love. I hear this so clearly in this stunning performance, a perfect interpretation of the true meaning of the song.

The fact that you're so clearly knowledgeable about the craft of singing and still said (multiple times) in this video that you're still learning is such a display of humility that all REAL mentors and true artists should strive to possess. It raises a red flag for me when an instructor attempts to project an all-knowing image because the inherent beauty of all art forms lies in the enigmatic quality that transcends mere technical correctness. The true beauty of ALL art forms is that no matter how technically proficient an artist may be, there is always that added mystery of something that you can't quite put your finger on which can catapult a sound, dance, speech, painting, sculpture, etc from simply being a creative display of self expression into the realm of becoming ART.
