That is cool to see that working, diagnosing those switches looked frustrating. Did you fix the issue with the basket tilting?
@jmuller862 жыл бұрын
The basket wasn't tilting when it was warm but the other day when it got cold it started tilting again so I need to re visit those cylinders. It could be the slave cylinder at the base of the boom too. Its not nearly as bad as it was when we were using it at your house though.

I’m a commercial electrician, the last time I used one of those telescope boom lifts, it was rented for 65’ pole lights. I’m not exactly sure of the different heights they run in, but my boss knew the lights were 65’, so instead of renting one that does 80’ or more, he rents one I pretty much had to max out the lift. It was awful, and almost the first time I told my boss fear got the best of me and I couldn’t do it. My knees never knocked that much in my life, every time I moved my body, it felt like it was about to tip over, and sway. LoL I spend a lot of time in our bucket trucks, the big ones 50’, and it doesn’t bother me in the least. Those telescope boom lifts, once you go above 40’ , it’s a completely different feeling to me.

I want to agree with Chris "You are absolutely correct in wearing the correct full safety harness" " If you go over a bump while the boom is out it will act like a sling shot and away you would go" I spent many years as a Electrian on a movie lot, In my experience the first thing I do is look for loose or broken wires than next clean all ground wire connections especially when there are more than one wire connected to a screw terminated at a metal or ground bus on carts and vehicles subject to outside environments. Also I alway spray out potentiometers (rotating resiters with cleaner lubrication spray designed for that use before unsoldering them to get a true reading on if there working with a meter)
@chillywilli2 жыл бұрын
Potentiometers wear out or get dirty. Usually a bit of contactspray can get them working for some time, handy when searching for errors. Measuring the resistance should be done when they are separate from the circuitboard, otherwise you can measure resistance of other parts on the board as well. When desoldering, the fastest way to melt solder is to apply a little bit of fresh solder, you get a lot better heat transfer then. With a solder sucker or desoldering wire you can then get rid of the old solder, so the connection is loose when you take the iron off to do the next one.
@cpad0072 жыл бұрын
Yes, the pot must be completely removed to properly measure its parameters. When still installed, you are also measuring the addition of other components connected to it.
@MarkRose13372 жыл бұрын
And measuring resistance may not be enough: if the contact patch is small it may not pass enough current at that low resistance when in use in circuit.
@pinwizz692 жыл бұрын
He was also measuring it wrong. The center tab is ground. The twp outer tabs you attach The red lead to then measure resistance. I've been an electronics tech on arcade and pinball games, jukeboxes and pretty much anything you can put a quarters in and have fun going all the way back to eletro mechanical ding ding ding pinball games. I could probably filla wharehouse with pots I've tested, used and thrown away. Mostly I cringed watching him soldering on that board. A blue solderpullit only cost around 10 bucks. I just bought a new one after over ten years on my old one I onky use on the road. I have a Hakko desosldering station so old I can't get parts anymore so I keep hacking parts for the vaccum pump.

Years ago, a boss had me work on a former navy propane forklift, and it always had a problem being used outdoors in the winter time. It turns out that the cooling hoses to the propane regulator from the engine had gotten clogged, maybe with radiator sealer, but whatever the cause, once we cleaned them out, it ran fine outside. That obviously wasn't your problem, but my boss thought that it might have been. It was an old flathead continental engine. They are a venerable old engine, and were used in WW2 in the Willys Jeeps.

So, Jesse, I am an electronics technician, and the first thing that I would have done is to carefully redraw the wiring diagram with all of the wires and switches. The electronics I would ignore. Then I would figure out how it was supposed to work; press this and this happens. Then I would simplify the drawing until I could figure out the difference between what was supposed to happen verses what was actually happening or not. This will do two things for you. You will see what is wrong and be able to fix it. And you will be able to see what the designed did wrong and fix it. Try this with something smaller and work your way up. I am confident you will be able to figure these things out.

Great job getting that back running again so you can use it! It appeared that the drive forward and reverse function worked correctly from the basket, which would have meant both that joystick and the wiring to the basket were good. So it may have saved you some questions and trail/error to have tested the other functions using that functioning joystick (testing the wiring to the basket for the other functions) and testing the other joysticks on the drive function, as you knew that wiring was good to the basket. Doesn't matter now though as you got it all figured out. Keep at it, hopefully the weather holds out for you to get your roof on soon. Have a good one!!

Jesse, I would rather get beat up by a girl than use propane, that said; if they work then why ever doubt that its the right stuff for a job. Propane does work I think, and that might be the definitive word of the day, that propane can be used in buildings, tunnels and other tight confines. Like you, I tear apart electrical stuff cause its either going to work or be replaced. Another channel I watch, the fellow first replaced the filter on a fuel pump. Cost for filter was a little over fifty dollars! Still had problems so bit the bullet and got a whole new fuel pump and guess the cost of that since it only comes with a new filter as well..... no guess, thats alright. I was a total of thirty five dollars delivered to his door! Lesson learned is: If you need to replace this filter again, order the whole pump for the filter and toss half away! That deserves the "Laugh out loud award" ha ha. I keep my fingers crossed for you Jesse as I really do admire you and your family for its remarkable tenacity and will to take the extra step to win. Plus your mom really has a good set of pipes... don't really care for every song that she sings but this much for sure, no shortcuts. She puts her heart into her singing and it brings her and dad much comfort....... You kids are just good people and that comes from a guy who is seventy three. I don't see any Joe Biden "Hold out your hand for gifts". Hard work is just that and your little kids.... I don't remember names well but still in diapers and he is going for it! He won't have even started first grade and will be running a machine for his dad. Was remember watching him while you were doing "Black Water system"...... he was a building away with dad!!! I used to fix electronic equipment and the most common problem was corrosion and crap, give it a clean with a small brush and IPA, also any dull solder joints you see give them a reflow with the iron. Heavy corrosion would mean replacing tracks etc a piece of wire can be used. If it still don't work after a clean the only option is diagnosis and replace damaged components or the bin ;) Components will usually show different values when measured in circuit i.e. still on the board rather than off of it.
