People who are capable of speaking multiple languages are eager to learn others, that doesn't mean that those are the same race as the spoken language. But the Khmer seem to impose their own beliefs or ideologies on others. So this is the educational problem in Cambodia.

Bit of background. As you know, Cambodians have been claiming that Thailand stole everything from them, land, culture, people etc. The area that is Surin province was once part of the early medieval Khmer Empire, but has long since been under Thai control ever since the fall of the Khmer Empire in the 1300s. Cambodians likes to think Cambodia is the only inheritors of the Khmer Empire. That Surin with its people there being ethnic Khmer, should "return" to Cambodia. In reality Surin is a mix of lots of different ethnic groups, but all count themselves as Thai. The Kuy people, the Khmer people and the Thai-Lao Isaan people. The thing with the Thai-Khmer in Surin is they're "Khom" or Upper Khmer which is different to the Khmer in Cambodia which are mainly Lower Khmer. Upper and Lower Khmer speak different dialects and are barely able to understand each other. And it was the Upper Khmer who were the ruling caste of the Khmer Empire, the Lower Khmer were the under caste who rebelled and caused the breakup of the Khmer Empire. The Cambodian influencer was was trying to prove Surin speaks Khmer as their main language to try to claim Surin as Khmer/Cambodia, but quickly found Thai was the main language. The different ethnic groups in Surin do have their own languages, but Thai is used as the main language, not Cambodian Khmer.

The Surin language is the language of the ancient Khmer (ancient India). However, the current Khmer language is a language that was newly learned during the reign of King Rama IV of Thailand by a monk named Pan. He combined the ancient Thai (Khmer-Thai), Sanskrit, Pali, and Thai languages to create the current Khmer language. Therefore, the speech and the letters are not like the ancient Khmer (ancient India), but rather like the ancient Thai letters (Khmer-Thai) invented during the Ayutthaya period. For example, some Khmer letters that are flipped are ancient Thai letters. The numbers that the Khmer people use are easy to see because they come from Thai numbers during the Rattanakosin period. The Khmer people themselves claim to be ancient Indians, but in reality, the Khmer people are not the same group of people. Because the DNA examination of the current Khmer is not the same as the DNA of people from surrounding countries, such as Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Burma, and Malaysia (in Somir's research). The migration of the ancient people is an indication that the Khmer people have been living in the land for no more than 500 years. The various claims from the ancient Indians are therefore not scientifically correct.
