Fun little cars back in the day, 850cc 4 speed and drove like a skateboard on rails ... as long as you kept under 50 to avoid the understeer. I wish I'd had the tools and technology you have now back then. That's an outstanding project you made.

I’ve said it before: What a transformation, just amazing! And now you can sit down and enjoy that lovely gixxer engine in relative comfort without having to resort to a chiropractor after every trip (as we others have to, riding two wheelers after reaching a certain age😅). And then that lovely soundtrack going up the hill, a right firecracker of a motor😎. Full score on this one!

Congratulations!! Very good work and videos! This version of the Fiat 850 Spider is from Bertone, the most common in the world. Here, in Argentina, we had the Pinninfarina version, rarer for everyone and more common for us. There are still many hanging around. My first car was a 1974 Fiat 600, 797cc engine, and everything I learned about mechanics and engineering over the years I put into that car, for 15 years. I modified a lot of suspensions, brakes and mechanics, but I kept the "original" engine in the rear. But when it comes to suspensions I see that we did VERY similar things. I used a Fiat 133 (903cc) engine stroked up to 987cc, cylinder heads made by me and individual intakes. Vacuumed it reached approximately 75hp, and I swear it was SO much fun! Then I used Turbo, 5-speed gearbox, etc., but I started to have another problem: aerodynamics. I had to redo the nose of the car, since, like you, I channeled the air from the radiator, now front, under the car... and above 200kmh you really realize that you are doing things wrong! I think this car you built is for playing on a weekend, having fun on twisty roads, very different from what I intended. I'm not trying to teach you anything, I see you know what you're doing! It's simply to tell other people who, perhaps, have this going through their minds. Best regards from the Southern Lands!!

Thanks brother! I lost many of the photographs of that car during my divorce. Let's keep in mind that I bought that car 2 months after turning 17 (the legal age to drive in Argentina), and I started modifying it when I was 19. I'm 45, so it's been a long time! I still miss that car...it was brutally fun! After many cars, including a BMW 323i e21 and a Ford Granada 2.8L coupe (one of my favorites!), I currently have a modified with Turbo 1967 Rambler Ambassador and I am building a Ford Fairlane (Torino for the North American market) that was a hearse bodywork, with a Y-Block 292 “Phase 2” engine (Argentine modification on cylinder heads) which I am modifying. But that Fiat 600 was a crazy thing!! At that time, I was 25 years old, the Buenos Aires-La Plata Highway had just been completed, which is where I live, and I always went out to speed it up there. We are talking about a Fiat at more than 200kmh!! I had a SACS modified GSXR 750, and not even in that soulless thing did I feel so scared!!

I really liked this project. Now, as a motorcycle rider, the kind that has an attitude, I would love to see a build like this, but with a real motorcycle motor: a two-cylinder motor. Of any kind, as long as it is a V or a boxer. LOL. Good stuff man, and nice that your father an d brother were part of it!

I had to sell my '73 850 spider - but I always thought it would be a good candidate for electrification using the original suspension and transmission. Some of the Abarth variants had over 200hp from a 2L engine, so I assume the transmissions could handle the power. Another option might have been a Honda 2.0L B-series using the original setup.

I seen a video of a while ago where the guy flipped the transmission around and it made it like a normal car I mean the shift pattern which was really cool great job man maybe some turbos the bigger fuel injectors? Or throttle bodies whatever the hell is on that motor that would be a cool second phase.

Not sure what the actual MPG is but the Speedometer was re calibrated to about 50% of what it originally read. So the engine is basically turning over twice as many times per mile as it did as a bike.
