Respectfully for your information. The honorable defence minister's surname is not सीतारमण but सीतारामन . The name Sitaraman is the name of Lord Rama in his form as the husband of Sita Devi, hence Sita-Raman . The equivalent in north Indian languages like Hindi, Marathi etc. is Sitaram. Sitaraman or Sitaraaman is the way Sitaram is pronounced and hence written in the southern languages of Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam where न is used to round out Sanskrit names. When transliterated from these languages back to English, it assumes the form Sitaraman. Other examples where the same Sanskrit origin names are written differently when transliterated back from southern languages to English vs. Northern languages to English, are Lakshmanan - Lakshman, Narayanan - Narayan, Raghavan - Raghav, Krishnan - Krishna etc. If you pronounce the name as सीतारमण , you change the entire meaning of the name as "one who delights or pleases the heart of Sita Devi. Whilst that is a valid description of Lord Rama, that is not the way the name Sitaraman originated. It originates from the idea whose meaning is explained in the previous paragraph (husband of Sita).
