I knew when I was in the thrift store and saw the name Silver Fire I had found a jewel that needed a good cleaning. Everyone was looking at this strange looking container saying it was a container to start charcoal in, but I knew what it was because I watch some great YT channels, especially yours. I bought an almost new Silverfire Rocket Stove for $6.99. Thank you Jnull0 for sharing your knowledge and great videos. i am now ready should we have any type of emergency. We had a tornado 3 weeks ago, but no long term power shortage, but it is hurricane weather and we don't know what is coming with this government. If my electric goes out, I run out of fuel, if I can't pay my utility bill, I have a back up way to cook. SilverFire and even living almost in poverty, I could afford it. Young folks pay attention to folks advise like Jnull0, your life or your kids life might depend on it one of these days. Thanks John for helping me to recognize the name "SilverFire".

So far the Hunter is my favorite. I just recently got this Survivor stove, and am still exploring all you can do with it. I think each will have its place for sure. J

Great Tip, John. A DUH! moment. Why didn't I think of that. A SilverFire is on my want list, already. Never thought about using alcohol in them. Funny part is that I buy bottles of 70%+ alcohol when on sale & at discount stores. Building a stash for what if...... to use like Sterno or in beverage can stoves. Your idea great for grid-down ice storms, for example. Off-grid cooking indoors! It Is safe! Remember alcohol burners in science classes at school mumble, mumble years ago. Thanks.

LED lighting saves some electricity but if you look at the wattage used in a house, things like stoves, ovens, microwaves, clothes dryers, are wattage hogs. So anytime you can use a low cost alternative your really sticking it to the power company. Great job John.

Thank you for doing these videos. I had never heard of these stoves. I have been toying with the idea of purchasing one but didn't know if I could afford one. But like you said once you have used it several times, it's paid for.

Hey man, appreciate your videos. Bought the Silverfire Hunter based on a previous video of yours. Thank you so much for showcasing not only the stoves themselves, but how they work in a very practical sense. Thank you for sharing.

Cool video John, very nice idea. You and solely you have inspired me to try to start to cook outdoors (yes I know that this was an indoor cooking video), but I'm going to go out right now and make me a cinder block rocket stove and give it a try. I'm inspired. Thank You John!

well Lee, the fireplace would work fine with either one of the stoves. I guess it depends on how often you want or can tend your fire in the stoves. If you want I will make another vid showing both with their dementions so you can get a better idea of size and advantages of each. J

Nice review these stove's steal my heart away.Anything cooked on wood is good, but in cold weather or bad weather alcohol is a good alternative. Good job on bringing the outdoors , indoors. Jack

Thanks, John. That would be a good idea, especially with the advantages of each. Suspect that a lot of folks are wondering which would be the best for their circumstances. In my case, using one in a fireplace would be a backup plan for grid-down & bad weather outside. Either raining or miserably cold, snowing, etc. Plus, using the how/why of my situation should help others work on backup solutions, too. Thank you, again, for considering this. Lee

I wonder if you could use a sterno for the fuel. It's about the same size as the can you where using and they last about 3 hours. But they are just used for keeping food warm when your using a chauffeur pan. Just a thought. Have an awesome day stay safe and blessed.

I put my trangia inside my silver fire scout. It burned a lot hotter but it worked. I was a little worried it could explode from all the heat but it didn't. I've only tried this once.

I admit I use my Trangia all the time in my bedroom because I have mobility challenges with stairs...use a cane. I use pieces of carbon felt to cover a desk. Never had a problem after hundreds of uses. I love alcohol uses combined with biomass stoves like the kelly kettle coupled with Trangia.

In checking out SilverFire have seen a lot of different cookware used on them. Especially cast iron for things that take longer to cook. Like the wok as ideal for stir fry, & as John said heats up fast for quick cook items. Thus, can pick & choose what's best for you, each time you use it. Hope this helps, too.
@oldtimerlee882011 жыл бұрын
That's the problem, John. Each one does have its place & I want both of them. :-) Still trying to decide which one has most overall advantages, since not much difference in cost. Do you have a fireplace in your home? Considering using the Survivor in ours. Especially in times when we don't want to use ours. (Just an insert.) Open damper, use Survivor in it for some quick cooking, for ex. Far less fuel needed than trying to cook directly in fireplace. Plus can close damper so much quicker.

In an emergency say freezing rain and electric goes out , no wood stove.. yes I would use this inside.
@sonofeloah5 жыл бұрын
If a person wants to use rocket stoves indoors as a regular method of cooking meals, then designate a place in the kitchen, set up a high enough table or cabinet to set the stove on and then do a hood with damper controlled pipe to run the smoke outside. Then you can use wood without the worry of smoke in the house.

You could also make a penny stove for pretty much nothing. It won't be as safe, though. But if you make it out of a larger can than a soda can then it might be OK as long as you're not stupid about it and cook on your carpet lol
