Elvis there was another sandwich he ate at one point called "fools gold" and it's peanut butter, jelly, and bacon. (Which is incredible i should say)

It looks delicious but Mary Jenkins showed another way to cook it. I don't know who's right or wrong but she'd toast the bread first, fry it WITH sliced banana in it and a lot more butter to do so 😀 Thank you so much for sharing and God bless you!

I've seen Miss Mary's video, too. I wonder if you could tell much difference in the finished products, either way? Jo's actually looks better imo.

I'd go with Mary Jenkins, since she was employed as his cook. Her statement about the recipe was in the 1980s or so and much closer to the time. She also invented it.

You all are so sweet sharing your memories with us💜 That sandwich is a super good idea when you have lots of mouths to feed. Tons of protein, butter evidently is now okay eat again😱, & banana. I could have used this when my kids were growing up. Elvis was onto something😋 A treat or a sandwich!

Mary Jenkins recipe would probably be more authentic, because Jo says "the cooks" would make it for Elvis. She of course would toast the bread first, then fry the bananas with butter inside the bread.

I've eaten peanut butter and banana sandwiches most of my life (before Elvis became famous), so at least in the South they aren't as crazy as some people think. I don't fry my bread, though, and I just slice my banana. I also love peanut butter toast so I'm going to try making one your way. It's gotta be delicious! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing how to make the famous peanut butter and banana sandwich. I heard the Spa Guy tell about Elvis taking the plane to get one of these sandwiches, and I heard about Mary Elvis's cook trying to make Elvis one and Vernon ended up helping her until she got it right. Elvis sent it back twice but the third time when Vernon helped her she got it right. I have also heard many people say that they never saw Elvis eat one of the peanut butter and banana sandwiches. I haft to say that Jo has it down pat. Looks easy to fix. Thanks for sharing. God Bless.

Thank you Jo for showing us that. I had the story that it was deep-fried with the banana inside. I couldn't imagine how that was going to work.. but this makes sense!👍 I do similar with fried cheese sandwiches and open them up after cooking to add add tomato or avocado.

That is how Elvis’ cook Mary Jenkins made them. She toasted the bread first. She then cut the bananas and added peanut butter to the bread. She bathed it in butter. There is a video here in on KZbin of her making one and telling the story of when Elvis first asked her to make him one.

Looks like any brand of peanut butter would be fine as long as it was creamy peanut butter. Is that a correct assumption Danny? Many, many thank yous for your Memphis Mafia Kid KZbin page. It’s really wonderful to see Elvis through the eyes of his closest family members who were there for the highs and lows. Thank you for sharing your memories.

I use to think all peanut butters were the same because Im not really a big peanut butter fan anyway. However was I wrong.😳 I once, for whatever reasons, decided I wld do a taste test of creamy peanut butters. Remember when Jiff claimed to be “The Best” & that “choosey Mother’s choose Jiff?” Ha! Well, we did conduct that test. And... as for me & my house, Jiff really was the best in creamy flavor. Idk, if it matters in this sandwich but my family did the taste test & Jiffy won! 👍

Thank you so much ,I have just discovered you , you have brought tears of joy and laughter. Wonderful people! This is a very personal question, but concerning Elvis' spirituality, I pray with all my soul that Elvis really was saved, and knew the Lord Jesus,I hope this dosen't offend you, that isn't my intention, I just want to know, despite all the rubbish written and money made off of him that he is at home with his mother, father and the Lord. Wether you answer, I still love your channel and would love to have Billy Smith do a tour of all things Elvis and Memphis as he has first hand knowledge. May God bless you all.
