Yes. It was called "taste." A stark contrast to the performers we've seen over the past decades. Check out Miley Cyrus, her whole relentless sexual coming out phase, and the obscene outfits she wears on stage. Not saying it's wrong or bad but it differs so much from singers like this. (and yes, I wouldn't say Miley is really a singer by any means but I'm just talking about taste v. tasteless)

I agree. Singers with actually trained voices are a rarity today. My best friend since college was an opera singer. I used to love to hear him sing prior to his passing.

All these Jo Stafford songs make me fell united with my mom who died last year. My heart was broken when my mom died. I am 58,but I want to keep my mother's memories alive. Thank you so much for music. It is appreciated. None of us would be here today without the soldiers of WW 2.

I grew up on this kind of music and never, never could like the rock and roll junk in all its iterations. I'm now 74. I've waited all my life for the beautiful music to return and it hasn't. Glad I have KZbin.

The goddess of 20th century romantic ballads. If I were taking a spaceship to eternity I would listen to her songs over and over again. Her phrasing and tonal quality are sublime!

Growing up in New England during the war years, I have such beautiful memories of the big band era and the singers who were the best of the best. Listening to our big Philco radio with my grandfather will stay with me for all my time here. Jo Stafford had a voice that was magical. Thanks for the beautiful trip down memory lane....

Me too. I was born just a little late[mid-fifties]. Thanks to KZbin I have discovered brilliant artists including the [Sentimentalists]Clark Sisters, Ella Mae Morse, Freddie Slack, Rosemary Clooney, Four Freshmen, Hi-Los,Johnny Mercer,Delta Rhythm Boys,Billy Strayhorn,Dorothy Dandridge, and others I had heard of but never got to hear.

I'm not from Usa. But when I first heard this song many years ago. I got shivers. And kind of homesick and sad. Maybe I sat in moonlight Vermouth in 1920s. Who knows. Still feeling sad.

Good God.....Anita-June-Jo.....so many great jazz singers that I'm becoming even more aquainted with due to KZbin and the vast quanity of recordings I've not heard before...sigh........I'm amazed at the quality of recordings.....I've been teaching music for over 30 years and I'm glued to KZbin with earphones planted in my head as I spend most of my summer vacation from school falling in love with with the voice of a woman whose passed.,,,,,,..a voice I can't get enough of

Wow.I've never been to Vermont,but 30 seconds into this song,I was there,my mind could visualize all this so vividly. Mind you,Im 43 years old and had never even heard of her until i got into swing dancing and big band 2 years ago! .i wonder how many incredible people from this time are sitting in rest homes anonymously . it make me sad,,but a few nights a week i'm out there trying to keep it alive a little bit. its strange cause i grew up on punk rock,ganster rap,and metal.

Refound Jo in the 80's as I would drive home from Mercury Nevada to Las Vegas. Was stricken with her voice...I do remember some of her songs when I was a little kid...1947. Am so happy to have youtube to enjoy again. THANKS!

Her breath control is amazing, actually it was Jo who taught Sinatra about breath control when they were both in the Dorsey Band not Tommy's Trombone playing as Frank always claimed but he was too proud to give her credit, Simply an amazing artist.Liked the alternate lyrics she used in this version.

Well, Sinatra paid her great homage over his career and she never felt slighted. After retiring from singing for over twenty years, she came out of retirement to sing for him at a party celebrating his seventieth birthday or thereabouts (I read somewhere).

I did not known that. Too bad Frank was a wimp about it I 'd never heard of her before a few weeks ago when i was looking into some history about the war years. I think she is/was manificent. Her voice is like liquid silver. I am so glad I've had the oppotunity to experience her voice. Just imagine, without that research , I may have lived my whole life and never heard her at all. Phew . hearing Jo stafford songs reminds me of the 60's when i begun to like music at 10 years old i can smell the surrounding of the small town where i grew people there sleep early begun to woke up at 03:00Am some started to practice singing i hear such as this such song and others ah Ray Patterson,Patti Page etc etc they were famous i think of those decades

I was born in Iowa in 1946 and my Dad & Mom would play this record often in the evening. Finally in 98, I got to tour Vermont in the Fall. The beauty of both came together. I love this song more then any.
