Read the sequels. She names one of her kids after him. Jo and Amy build a big house on the Plumfield property. And there's one scene in which some of the boys come across Jo and Teddy unawares, with his head resting in her lap and her brushing his curls. The boys are surprised and she explains that Teddy was "her first boy." I always kind of theorized that they had an affair or an understanding of some sort. Of course, I read that when I was young. As an adult, I might have a different view. If I ran into my first love today, I'd feel some residual fondness, but it's nothing compared to 16 years of marriage.

I still feel that Book!Laurie loves both Jo and Amy at the same time, while Jo is his true love and Amy more like a partner of marriage and life. It's like Laurie and Amy just "suit" eachother, and he loves Amy as a wife and a woman, but he still love Jo the most throughout his life. She's his passion and inspiration, and they still want to stick together after marrying other people. Just that Jo's attachment towards Laurie is more like a mother to her doting child or litter brother (she has that strong instinct to care for and love him like a fluffy pet), and Laurie had buried the romantic side of his feelings deep inside (maybe even ignoring it) for them to stay together as besties again, as he's grown up and matured. I even doubt one of the reasons his choosing Amy is that he could really become a part of the March family, and can then always stay close to Jo .
@Olya_L1910 ай бұрын
I agree with your last sentence. I'm also sure that Amy is a good option for Laurie to be close to Joe at least in this way, and to be in a family that has become his own for him. In the 1994 film adaptation, Laurie (Christian Bale) told Amy at the end of the film that he always wanted to be a part of the March family, that he truly loved them all as family, and that he would be jealous and hate any man who married each sister, no important with which.

I will just state my opinion before this scene is meg wedding, Jo was so sad that Meg was leaving her also she was surprised because aunt march chose Amy to go to France with her instead Of Jo, I think that time Jo is emotionally burned out and then Lauri proposed to her,(who is not surprised by that?!)Jo needed time to think, she made a rational decision after this proposing scene she cried I think that is a sign she is emotionally burned out and then there was a scene where Jo has torn out the paper(a letter that supposed to be given to Laurie and throw it into the river)and seeing scenes of Laurie and her when they are young I think that time she did not realizes that he loved Laurie, she just reflected her actions too late. There are too many lines and scenes where Jo expresses her love to Laurie but not realizes it. It was just a wrong timing.
@Olya_L1910 ай бұрын
OMG, yes, you explained it so well! Before Laurie's proposal, there was always a certain magic between him and Jo - the looks, the hugs, the touches, it's hard not to notice. I think the TRUE Villain in the film or book is MARMEE. 1. Marmee wants Jo to easily forgive Amy for Burning her Books 😤😤😤 2. Jo sacrifice her Hair for her father, and moves to New York to support Beth and Amy 3. Aunt March first offer Jo to go with her in Europe but difficult deciding because of her family and then come amy accept offer right away and Marmee doesn't do anything 4. Marmee knows that Jo also love Teddy back but Shes just right there and AGAIN SHE don't do anything. Jo wants to be a writer but it doesn't mean she doesn't want someone. I YOU HATE MARMEE SO MUCH 😤😤😤

Yes, I agree. Marmee was definitely partial towards Amy. Jo misunderstood that Beth was in love with Laurie. From Amy's letters, Marmee understood that she would win Laurie & yet failed to mention it to Jo. Marmee is a selfish mother. Amy too in my opinion. However she gets everything she wants foreign trip, Laurie etc.

Amy is not selfish, she knew someone would have to marry well to support their family: -Their parents were penniless but in love -Beth was in and out of sickness -Meg gave up an expensive life she could have had for a man she loved -Jo would never marry So Amy took on the responsibility to marry well, completely by herself and gave up on her dreams of being an artist to become an ornament to society, but when she was in France she was with Laurie, and the 2 fell in love, and she gets the man she rightfully deserves and loves. I have a question. How do males and females bond with each other? I don't see how men and women can bond (especially romantically) with each other. Women can build incredible friendships and become very close to each other in a way men can't bond, and science shows that women can bond very well with each other. Generally, women are even more social than men are. After something bad happens, a woman quickly rushes to talk to all of her female friends to get support, whereas a man can isolate himself and grief alone. Women tend to be more emotional, more caring, more empathic, more compassionate, more affectionate, more loyal, more nurturing, more understanding, more sympathetic, more sensitive, more kind hearted, more peaceful, more calmer, more gentle, more expressive, more intuitive, and more outward than men are, and thus bond more with other women in a special way that they can’t with men. Men, on the other hand, are not that emotional, and thus can’t bond with other men in a special way. Women are more comfortable being around with other women than they are with men. They have a type of bond that usually men with women won’t really have, or with men and men. Most women like to do affectionate things with their female friends like cuddling with them and holding their hands and be touchy-feely towards each other, while most men would never do affectionate things with their male friends (especially not cuddling with them or holding their hands or be touchy-feely towards each other). Men are usually much lonelier than women are. Men don't often talk about their personal problems with their male friends like how women do with their female friends. Females produce a lot more oxytocin than males do. And that's a reason why women tend to hug a lot more and be a lot more physically affectionate than men do.
@icysnow57cold643 жыл бұрын
@DURGA SHETTY_VIII_UNO Females have a larger frontal cortex than males, making them a lot more emotional than males are, and females produce a lot more oxytocin than males do. And that's a reason why women tend to hug a lot more and be a lot more physically affectionate than men do. Also, males and females produce hormones that are very different from each other that effect their brains and their way of thinking very differently from each other. Male bodies usually produce high levels of testosterone and female bodies usually produce high levels of estrogen. So males and females are both mentally and physically different from each other, and that would make it harder for them to bond with each other.
@icysnow57cold643 жыл бұрын
Men and women are wired differently from each other and women produce a lot oxytocin than men do. Here's a quote I found in an article about how men's brains may not being wired for much connection: "A 2014 study found that males had stronger neural connections in the parts of the brain responsible for perception and action, while females had better connectivity along the neural pathways linking analytics to intuition - two areas used heavily in interpersonal connection. Before this study, differences in these kinds of neural pathways had never been highlighted among such a large sample size (949 individuals)." Here's another quote I found from another article: "So why are men and women different in the way they make friends? One hypothesis is the difference between the male and female brain. Typically, women tend to have a larger deep limbic system than their male counterparts. The limbic system is a network of nerves in the brain connected to instinct and mood. The limbic system controls basic emotions such as happiness and fear. Because this system tends to be larger in women, females are more in touch with their feelings and have an increased ability to connect individually with others." Because of women being more emotional and more affectionate than men are, and women being able to connect a lot better with other women than they do with men or men with men, wouldn't that mean that men and women are not very compatible with each other?

The part where Laurie said he never imagined he would want to hep Jo chase another man but he liked it was important and should have been included, the 2019 version fixed the incorrect notion of the other films that made it seem that Amy was second choice or that Laurie just wanted to be a March so he would have married any of the sisters. It’s also well established in the movie that Jo and Laurie are best friends even brother/sister. The part of the proposal scene of Laurie and Jo that’s also important is that one day he will see she’s right to turn him down because she doesn’t love him and frankly, he doesn’t realize that he’s not in love with her but after he does fall in love with Amy, he can tell the difference. Amy is the right one for Laurie.
