I stood behind Joan Collins in a queue for the ladies at a London theatre YEARS ago at a performance of Trelawny of the Wells. She stood in line with everyone else and smiled at me as she rinsed her hands at the next basin. Not a very glamorous setting but I can confirm in real life she actually looks even better than on TV.

As an older Irish gay man, I’ve always loved Dame Joan Collins as Alexis in Dynasty from my teens in the 1980’s growing up in a little village in Rural Ireland, as aside from her gay son Stephen, Alexis gave me the inspiration and the courage to come out as gay - I know that Joan in real life has many gay friends and even at 90, she still looks as wonderful as ever - she is a treasure and we are so lucky to still have her with us, with her handsome husband Percy ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Joan Collins was never a star of the 'Golden Age of Hollywood', she was placed under contract to 20th Century Fox in 1955 , by 1959 her contract ended. She was never a first rank star and was considered during her film career as a 'B' movie actress. She did achieve major fame however with the tv show Dynasty in the 1980's and she is very glamorous for her age, no question, however you cannot describe her as the last ultimate star ! You can't compare her to someone like Eva Marie Saint , Sophia Loren etc Thank you

I have a story from a cabin crew friend - a ‘little old lady got on the flight with a head scarf and a mackintosh - and a large vanity case - in 1st class. The seat belt sign clicked off and off the little old lady went to the bathroom with her case, after an hour he was concerned- she said she was ok. Door clicks open, Joan pops out, wig and make up on, looking *amazing*.’ He said she was charming polite friendly and marvellous.

Spent a brief moment with this Dame at an airport lounge many years ago. Unpretentious. Gracious. And just a nice lady. When a Legend is secure in her status there is no need for pretensions.

The legend. Take notes, folks, because this lady knows heaps about life and the biz of show. Her beauty aside, I think we have to admire Joan's sense of humor, and her style, plus that knowing glint in her eyes that sometimes appears and can say much more than any word or phrase ever could. She's done stage, softcore adult flicks, Faerie Tale Theatre, soap opera (a stint on Guiding Light in 2002), biblical epics of the 1950s, horror movies, American Horror Story: Apocaplyse, and much more. Such diverse stuff. I like that Joan is genuine when she speaks to an interviewer or appears on a live talk show; what you see and hear is what she is. There's no bullcrap or haughtiness at all. I think one of my favorite things that she ever did was her appearance on an episode of the NBC sitcom Will and Grace, in which she played a rival interior designer, and in the episode, boozy society diva Karen Walker tells Grace about the glamorous woman's dirty little secret: occasionally disguising herself in public so she can indulge her predilection for messy Mexican food. Seeing Joan wolf down a gooey taco like a truck driver was priceless.

Dynasty really changed how America looked at "women of a certain age". If you were an actress and over 30 then your career was on the downslide. Joan Collins, Linda Evans and Diahann Carroll completely changed all of that mentality. They were so beautiful, glamorous and talented. They marked new boundaries for women.

30 is still a very young age, just not in Hollywood.

@@desertrose1226 I was just thinking the same thing. 30 is incredibly young - even in Hollywood it should be, if it isn't!
