I met Joan when she was in charge of Pepsi Cola and Frieto-Lay. She opened the new Pepsi bottle plant in Rochester NY in 1964. Some of us friends skipped school that day just to meet her. I still have her autograph on her photo.

She changed dramatically as she aged. I would never guess this is the same woman as the actress.

Joan Crawford loved to dance since she was a little girl, fun fact: she was married to Douglas Fairbanks,jr. Thank you for sharing this with us all, love your channel, hello from Orange County, CA 🤗👋

This reminds me of the 1933 movie Dancing Lady. It was a showcase of Joan Crawford's versatility: Serious acting with Clark Gable and Franchot Tone; comedy with Ted Healy and his boys, Howard, Fine, and Howard (Whatever became of those guys?); song and dance with some hoofer named Fred Astaire.

This is what help make her popular . with people .... also with MGM. They should do a bio of her beginning ..thru the 1930 s . leaving MGM ..... would be interesting ...

The lady could do it all, great acting in musicals, dramas, even a few comedic rolls. Dancing Lady 1933 is one of my favorite of her early films. I can't think of a Joan Crawford film that I have not enjoyed, and I've seen most of them. Enjoyed your channel.

Fun fact- Joan originally hated the name Crawford, she thought it sounded too much like Crawfish.
@RobinGH

I read that she hated "Joan", too. She tried to get it pronounced like "Jo-ann". I guess no matter how much she disliked it she had to admit it was better than Lucille LaSeure.

Joan achieved everything that was expected of a movie star. Even more impressive is that she never went beyond the sixth grade and often had to ask her costars what words meant as she tried to read the scripts.

It actually wasn’t that unusual to not go past the 6th grade, especially for girls. My grandmother had to go to work after she graduated from elementary school. I have her old report card and on the back of it the students signed an oath to be a good citizen and to be helpful to others.

Do you know what she was forced to do in order to pay the rent before she went to California? Do a hardcore stage film titled," lurid lips. Years later when she was a star she fought to find those films and destroy every copy so no one would blackmail her. She might have wiped out every copy.

I think Eddie Mannix, the 'fixer' of Hollywood, paid for the film to 'go-away'.

maybe, maybe not, no proof has ever been found, it all started with Douglas Fairbanks biography in which he mentioned it but many people including Joan later in her bio said it is not true and that she didnt make any stag films. We'll never know for sure likely.

Is click-bait a compulsory thing here on KZbin? Did any one else assume by clicking on this video we would actually watch Joan dancing the Charlestown? I’ve listened to a young guy reading an article instead.

*The1920sChannel* What age was Joan in 1926? Are there any 1920s articles mentioning her age cuz there are no real answers besides people saying she was born between 1904 to 1908. She was either 22,21,20 or 19 in 1926.

I love Crawford films - of course they had fabulous writers and brilliant stories. They paced films much better in the golden era. I find modern films invariably so slow boring and the screenplays abysmal. They mumble and linger far too long. You can watch an old picture packed with a story with good forward movement. Been watching what we’re essentially b movies on KZbin and even they are more entertaining than many of todays films. I think the industry is now obsessed with identity politics so the films need to be heavy with box ticking hence lose any semblance’s of meaning.

The correct pronunciation of Monmarte is : Mo Mart. I love Joan in Dancing Daughters, but her 1925 vintage Charleston as captured in "Sally, Irene and Mary" is a disappointment at best. Far from stardom, she doesn't even have the sense to look straight into the camera as all the other chorus girls do... in a line shot as they walk towards it, holding out the skirt of their dance frocks. For all the Charleston hoopla associated with building Joan's stardom, she never did an exciting Charleston routine on film. The other 20's Charleston contest winner/turned actress, Ginger Rogers did however. In "Roxie Hart. "
