I've been a JC fan since I was a child, and I studied all of the beauty tips in her book when I was quite young. There is a lot in the book about posture, voice, skin care, and being beautiful and happy from the inside out. The book is a bit bonkers, but the beauty advice works. Joan was a great believer in moisturizers and "watering your skin" and that truly is the key. If they had known about sunscreen, and the effects of smoking and sun exposure back then, she would have looked good forever. One trick regarding the ice, which I always felt was a little harsh.. Take an ice cube and roll it over your face. It tightens the skin. I am 35 and people think I am in my 20s, thanks to her, and staying out of the sun!

Danielle 1974 You realize that Faye Dunaway was Against the way she was forced to portray Joan... And she actually admired Joan Crawford deeply!
@BoBo-ti6jh5 жыл бұрын
@@s.e.landeros280 Dunaway has never said that. She has said that she is proud of her work in the film. Although, she thinks the film is flawed. Dunaway has also said she did not believe the book Mommie Dearest and the way Crawford was depicted by the adopted daughter. Dunaway portrayed the character of Crawford, as depicted in the book, brilliantly.
@BoBo-ti6jh5 жыл бұрын
@@kalebchavez3279 You're correct. Dunaway fought with the producer and writer to give a more balanced and fair portrait in the film. She did not believe the stories in the book were accurate and only showed one point of view. Dunaway insisted on showing the pressure Crawford was under at the time, how hard she worked and, most importantly, how headstrong and spoiled the little girl was. Christina and her husband were co-producers and were angry at Dunaway for demanding the little girl be presented as troublesome for Crawford. In the book Christina presents herself as the constant victim and takes no responsibility. She only heaps blame at Crawford for everything. Dunaway gave an excellent performance of Crawford, as she was depicted by the adopted daughter in the book. People forget that Mommie Dearest is not a biography of Crawford but a depiction of her by a disturb, greedy and angry adult child. Lastly, I saw the movie when it opened in 1981 and the audience sympathized with the Crawford character and not the little girl. Dunaway's performance made the audience root for her and not the little girl "victim."

My favourite JC movie where she has the main role would probably be “Mildred Pierce”. That said, I think “The Women” with Norma Shearer et al is an equally wonderful movie and Crawford shines in it even if the part is smaller. And Just FYI: sugar does not rot your teeth. Bacteria in the mouth does. The bacteria feed on the sugar and multiply more rapidly. However the only way sugar could affect your teeth in a drastically negative way is if you don’t have proper oral hygiene. Anyone that brushes their teeth daily would be fine.

Most people in today's era, don't really understand the 'whole thing' about Joan Crawford and fixate on issues that relate as much to Hollywood's internal power politics and 'spun marketing' to damage rival studios, as they 'might' do on Crawford's reputation for terse cynicism of the studios and the media and 'outsiders.' Joan Crawford had at least three phases of a long career and she was originally cast for her looks alone when she was young - in silent movies in the silent movie era. She successfully made the transition to the sound movie era and possessed a strong dramatic voice and extremely professional acting skills. Nobody much talks about the movie which both stopped her career in one sense - and made it, as far as the genuine cognoscenti would say: namely 'Mannequin' with Spencer Tracy. This was a stunning movie and one that would fit in anywhere (with any adult audience) in the modern world today. At the same time, it put casting couch producers' noses out of joint and scored some decisive hits against the inequalities that persist - in all of their guises - in a post-modernist decadent society. The movie was brilliant and Crawford was brilliant and so was Tracy. Crawford in that movie is the template for a kind of Sigourney Weaver type. The public hated the movie, the studios hated the movie, it never made enough money (according to the studios) and Crawford was utterly starved of any top-line scripts ever afterwards regardless of what anyone else will tell you that is different to that reading. But you cannot understand 'Joan Crawford' unless you have seen THAT movie; none of the others are THE real authentic JOAN CRAWFORD as she was as a truly great, young, very beautiful, and impressive screen female. Frankly, I think she was entitled to be very angry with the way she was treated by people generally, and the studios and the Hollywood 'scene' afterward.

Thank you so much for doing this @Laura Jane Atelier. I'm a big Joan Crawford fan. I love seeing content that intend to pay homage to her legacy. Some people are so cruel. 50 years of hardwork and her adoptive daughter made her existence as a joke just like that with rubbish book Mommie Dearest! So terrible! Thank you for doing this!

I had a summer bible school teacher (45 yrs ago) who wore a light floral perfume that I never forgot. I will check these out to see if it was one of them. I will know it right away!

Joan Crawford is one of my favorites too. I always admire her discipline. No, I’m not speaking about her treatment of her children. I’m talking about her regimens.

I read somewhere that Joan Crawford did go to extremes to maintain her youthful beauty...and I know what you mean about “Youth Dew”...I remember my mother wore it and I thought it overwhelming as a girl! I bought some recently for out of curiosity, and it is so strong, like you, I want to like it....but it’s certainly strong and supposedly uniquely different on everyone!!

Listening to you speak so daintily and then seeing you hammer that ice with the brush handle was a good time 🤣

This is a fabulous video! I love all of your vids- but these informative ones about old Hollywood stars are super interesting. ☺️
