This is all so rushed. No one is allowed to speak for more than a few seconds. As soon as the Little Ricky actor started speaking he’s cut off, then the others speak a bit, then there’s yet another commercial break. No one has a chance to develop a thought or even to get to the end of a comment.

Keith was pouring on a coat of sugar here, although it was very clear to the perceptive eye that he was not impressed when Joan questioned him on if he makes any money on the re-runs! And in another interview years later, he said he was miserable at that time. When he would be at Lucy & Desi's house, he said her and Desi were always fighting. He said how Lucy would go upstairs and slam the door - often she would stay up there and Desi would stay downstairs with Keith and little Desi Jr. Keith hated being in show business and on T.V. He has admitted that he couldn't wait to get out of the business. Even in this interview, it's so obvious that he was less than thrilled.

I heard both sides from Keith - that Lucy was very good and loving towards him and Desi was charming etc. However, when Desi drank he had a temper, ie when he heard a tutor call Desi Jr lazy he went after him physically; he said when Desi drank all the kids felt anxious, even though Desi was warm when sober. And in the later days when Desi and Lucy fought - the children, him and Lucie and Desi Jr felt anxious. Keith stayed over on the weekends and often took trips with the family. The Arnaz children and he were very close. If it was so terrible why would he have spent so much time with the family - weekends and vacations?

Was an interesting insight into “Lucy”. When Joan’s show aired, I really never watched because I worked all the time. But one night, I was sitting outside where I worked, waiting for my boyfriend to pick me up. It was an autumn evening, slightly foggy. I could see somebody approaching from about a block away, they were in shadows, so I couldn’t make out anything but that it was a woman. I thought “that woman walks like Joan Rivers”. The lady crossed the street, still walking toward me. It WAS Joan Rivers. She passed by me smiling. I said “hello, it’s a beautiful evening, isn’t it?”. She said hello, and how lovely it was. I watched as she passed by me, then I heard a jingling noise close to the sidewalk. I looked down to see her little Yorkie, Spike, without a leash, just following her. I was surprised, but said “Hi Spike!”. He looked right up at me, but didn’t stop and kept following her like a good boy. I don’t know who I was more excited to see, Joan or Spike.

Interesting how residuals worked then, clearly they didn’t know how big reruns would be. CBS likely makes big bank off the show and it’s too bad the writers got nothin aside from the amazing stories they are able to tell.

Actually Lucy and Desi originally owned I Love Lucy - but sold them back to CBS for 1M in order to buy RKO. While Desilu originally owned the show, CBS owned distribution rights.

Marc Daniels, the original director for the first few series of I Love Lucy, according to his son, told him that Lucille Ball was the best actor he ever directed - and he directed Sally Fields, Paul Newman, Lawrence Olivier and others. Also, when Orson Welles was on the set when he appeared on an episode on I Love Lucy and was watching Lucy from "the wings", someone asked him what he was looking at, he replied "the greatest actor in the world".

Interesting - how close Lucy and Desi remained after the divorce; he sent Lucy flowers at least for 15 years on their Anniversary. Also, how they all knew each other - Gary golfed with Desi and Lucy played cards with Edith. I found it interesting that Gary said that Desi and Lucy were married for 19 years (it was 20 years) and that he and Lucy were married for 30 years (it was 28 years). I am happy that Lucy and Desi remained close til Desi died and that both of them had remarried people who were good step parents as well as good partners. Also Lucy and Desi last spoke before Desi died on their anniversary.

Correction to the gentlemen's comment when they were discussing Lucille Ball's hair color about halfway through... Lucille Ball was not falsely accused of being a communist. She was in fact a registered communist.
@LJ-ht4zs
@LJ-ht4zs 2 жыл бұрын
She was never a communist - she, her brother, and mother signed a registration card to please their grandfather who was a socialist. I personally feel that McCarthy was an alcoholic and a sleazy guy who was trying to build a name for himself. Also

Joan's comment about Lucy keeping her legs closed was so vulgar. Joan always manages to insert herself into everything, with comments that are self indulgent and not funny. Something is a lot better than nothing. But too many people on the show. Lots of interruptions. You cant settle in on any one thing. In a 1 hour show it's just too little time to give people justice, or justice to the iconic person or show you're honoring. It should have at least 3 parts or a week of honoring I Love Lucy.

Ever since I heard Lucy's daughter bad mouthing her mother just a year after her mother's death ,I was mad at Joan for bringing such a vindictive ,ungrateful daughter on the show ,but here she is with a beautiful tribute for Lucy minus that motormouth of a daughter ( who doesn't let even her brother talk ,always butting in with her own two bits,here he got a chance to speak at least) ,and Joan had her.own mean ,malicious daughter to deal with so no wonder ,during gary Morton interview she sympathised with lucy

@@caseyliguori2068 I don't agree, I thought Lucie Arnaz talked with much insensitivity early on. Now she says she is older and how she has a broader perspective. I remember her saying years ago when per parents got a divorce how sorry she felt for her father - who was a serious addict: sex, booze and gambling. As much as I respected Desi's gifts, his addictions were awful - present before he married Lucy, during the marriage, and afterwards. His wife Edith almost divorced him too. It felt like she never put her empathy towards her mother. Saying that mother had a hard edge. Well considering how she much she loved Desi and how serious his sexual acting out was - sometimes several hookers a night, she certainly developed a hard edge to protect herself from all the hurt and pain. btw Desi told his daughter that his sexual stuff was blown out of proportion - not according to many sources. Conversely Desi was so jealous of Lucy, when she worked with Henry Fonda on The Big Street, he came to the set every day and was so distracting or disruptive that he had to be banned from the set.
