I feel privileged to live in Finland. When the sky is clear, you have a 50% chance of seeing auroras every night. They're something you never get bored of and the first thing I always want to show to my foreign guests.

Of coarse Joanna Lumley from "AbFab" ( love her in that show) is absolutely fabulous but she is also a terrific traveler who brings us along on her adventures. I love the way she talks to locals & "absolutely" loves what she experiences & learns. There's something about her curious directness disguised in her soft spoken posh accent that charms & disarms.

Joanna Lumley is a Gift from God. Her warmth and sincerity, her God given talent to make people laugh, and her ability to teach and her help for the Ghurkas to get government veterans pension in Britain is/are symbolic that God has his Hand on her life!

I have just come back from Tromso and one cannot describe the magic of the Aurora Borealis, was lucky enough to get to see them in full flow on two different nights and words cannot express the experience. You cannot see them as vivid as you do in pictures but it get's pretty close.

Northern lights in Northern Norway are wonderful! I also always wanted to go to Norway or Iceland in winter. And after six rounds of chemotherapy during an especially hot summer I decided to skip rehabilitation, and I booked a round trip from Bergen to the Russian border and back with one of the legendary Hurtigruten post ships - and I choose the end of February 😊 Everybody said that this is madness because I wouldn't be able to see anything except maybe a few Northern lights. Everybody couldn't have been more wrong! Yes, I saw plenty of Northern lights, but I saw many other things, too! The light of the winter sun was wonderfully golden, and since everything was covered with snow you can see a lot of things even after sun set, and Norway's snow covered coastal mountains looked like the Dolomites. The Hurtigruten post ships are not cruise ships, and they travel day and night in order to transport passengers, cargo and mail. You have to organize your own entertainment. But when the ships stop in a port, it's possible to make excursions. My best excursion was a trip with sledge dogs along the bay of Tromsø in the golden light of the afternoon sun. As a dog lover this had been on my bucket list for a long time. However, the most exciting event happened at the beginning of my trip after the ship had left Bergen in the evening - and we went right into a severe storm whose intensity constantly increased. We were told in the morning not to leave our cabins, and I became sea sick for the first time in my life. The ship was obviously in some trouble because it couldn't reach the next port, and it had to be redirected to a safer place. When it finally managed to reach a protected spot, journalists entered our ship in order to find out if everything was alright. I had no idea that apparently the situation had not been business as usual. We were told that many waves had been as high as 12 meters! That's as high as a 19th century four-storey building! Unfortunately I had not been able to appreciate this, because the windows in my cabin had been constantly under water! But the rest of our trip was all sunshine and friendly weather. So, did I get better during that trip? You bet! The fresh and cold salty air and the sea food was exactly what I needed! And the adventure at the beginning helped everybody to forget conventions and we became friends for the duration of our sea voyage. I can highly recommend Arctic Norway in winter!
