The lights were indescribably gorgeous. When Joanna started crying, I almost did as well because you know that the desire in her heart to see this natural wonder was so incredibly genuine and humble. If I ever see them in real life myself, I'll most certainly cry.

Joanna Lumley, is one of our British sweethearts. I watched the whole series when it was on tv and, I've watched it several times since. Joanna is so moved by the Northern Lights, that the viewer can't help to become emotionally attached and share her overwhelming joy. Gorgeous lady.

For those thinking it looks fake, it's because the footage of her standing under the lights is not direct filming via video camera, it is a movie made up from constant time exposures from a digital camera, because the lights themselves were not bright enough to show up on the movie cameras. By taking 10 to 30 second exposures on a dslr and then stringing them altogether, the resulting images appear almost animated : if you watch Joanna she appears to move suddenly from her positions, giving the time exposures away. Hope that helps :)

Someone once asked me what I would want to see most in this world before having to leave it!! This was one of those things I wanted to see. It is doubtful I will make the trip myself so I must say this was the closest I may come to seeing the Northern Lights!! I cried with you my dear. It was simply breathtaking! @AuroraBorealisful on the dvd release they say that the scenes where she is visible in the foreground watching them, were all shot on 2 DSLR cameras, each shooting maybe 4 or 5 second exposures, then they put them all together. The scenes of her reactions were filmed on HD camera and she was lit by a little battery torch - just to make her visible :) They also said some footage was slowed down to try to show the intricacies of the movements. Fantastic programme :))

I was lucky enough to see a spectacular aurora in Tromso a few years ago and was just as wobbly-lipped and misty-eyed as Joanna....a jaw dropping experience that words can't describe Without any reservation I can recommend a trip to the far north during the dark months...and to keep your fingers crossed

Come on, it looks amazing in real but in a different way. its fainter then vid/foto colors anyway , i've seen blasts, and its ofcourse amazing to experience... but lets be honest for all these people behind screesn who think this is reallity ! . starting : the green and pink is always 3x more on cam screen ... and the colors and diafragma are in this vid so overrrrsaturated here in this video . and effects and cuttings are on top of it even. this is just really photoshop / videoshopped my god so obviously.

I can assure you that although some parts are time lapses and sped up, a lot of it is genuine. I went on a trip to Tromsø in Feb 2014 taking the train from Trondheim to Bodø then flying to Tromsø and the scenery and people were amazing but there was one reason I came and I got the result I hoped for! What started as a small green strip which going by the forecast was the best we were likely to see, after a bit of patience the sky exploded in green, I truly felt as she did with a tear in my eye amazed and couldn't believe what I was seeing, would recommend it to anyone!

I've also wanted to see the northan lights but i very much doubt i will get to see them im always of to hot places it would be an extraordinary adventure. @AuroraBorealisful Northern light is definitely not visible most nights all year. In the summer you can't see it because of the midnight sun (daylight 24/7) The best month are usually october and february-march.

Its almost impossible to capture the aurora on film. This is due to the shutter speed of the camera and the amount of light it can capture. You will only see a black sky, almost regardless on how bright the aurora is when filming with a camera. This is why they have to take long exposure pics and string them together. It might brighter then it is in reality, but its the only way to fully capture the northern lights on film. So its not ridiculous, but simply the only way.

I need to return to Tromso, last year I took my girlfriend for 3 nights and had bad weather so only saw a very weak green lights on one night after driving for hours, I must see what Joanna saw, I know its never guaranteed but I must try, anyone who know what fjord he drove her to??
