I saw JS perform in december 2005 at the Royal Festival Hall with the London Philharmonic. The whole of Ys and more. My soon to be wife bought the ticket for me as a present. She was an opera singer. She said she had never seen an orchestra so transfixed by a performer. I cried a lot. I shiver now, as I type this, marriage ended a while ago but this transports me back to a time of truly special love. No more words

I was here. It was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. Everyone needs to see one show in the chapel.

Thank you for this, same set list as a show in Madison in November 2006 that I remember as heart-stopping, gorgeous. Was thinking about it today and found this, what a gift!

I've loved this concert bootleg so very much and I am so elated to come across the whole video version of it. Joanna Newsom is divine and her music is endlessly awe-inspiring. How can someone make such great albums and execute the entire album so perfectly even without looking at the score or whatsoever?

i think i listen to this whole concert once every two years (beginning way back when we only had snippets of songs scattered around, btw ty so much @Niklas and @peachplumpeariffic1), cause that is really the only frequency i get the focus necessary to really sit down and pay attention to it as i believe it deserves, and i find it amazing how each time i pick up a different detail about the performances of each song. this time around i'm really absorbed by the yodels that surface here and there, but aren't necessarily a predominant feature of her voice on her studio albums. so very endearing this whole business.

also what a huge privilege, that this admirable feat of a show was recorded and is up on YT for any to listen, watch and appreciate for years to come. this is really one instance of technology that takes my breath away every time.

I'm very happy that I got to see her twice in Germany, once with YS, ther other with Have one on Me. Even more precious considering her seemingly endless break from music now. I hope she'll come back with old or new material one day again. She made a huge impact on alternative music and was really a role model for us younger women in terms of creativity, femininity, intelligence, creativity, individuality and more. Listening to her now takes me back in time and I miss her.

I was always a bit disappointed by Ys, but seeing these arrangements in the upstairs at First Unitarian changed my mind completely. Must have been a few seats behind the person taking this video. Wish there had been a full studio album with this band, rather than the Van Dyke Park instrumentation. oh god I'm finally becoming a guy who posts on KZbin comments about Music From When I Was Young

If you repeat and practice things enough times... And a lot of it is cognitive/physical muscle memory, some of it will be narrative cues in the song, and don't forget...she wrote them, so there's a cognitive process in that which lends a facility to memorisation. I actually know all the lyrics to Monkey & Bear because I've sung it a million times, and listened to it a million more :)
