Not only is she an awesome guitarist but she has a great voice as well. I am going through a serious blues period at the moment with people like JST and Samantha Fish blowing my mind - and inspiring me to get back to playing ths stuff. Now where did I leave that LP...

Geez! How awesome to get insight into the periphery of JST. She's my total favorite, but I didn't have this kind of background from anywhere. Not to mention, getting to see her elusive, gorgeous smile was a real treat! Thanx very much!

I'd first heard Joanne on radio, but caught her live at Manchester Hard Rock Cafe at a fundraiser gig for Pinktober, for breast cancer research; utterly blown over at just how good, and natural, she was. The SRV and Albert Collins references she makes here were apparent in her style, along with Bonnie Raitt; voice somewhere between the latter and (dare I say it) Aretha Franklin live... Mesmerising. Catch her if you can.

My Tube Screamers are good, and "reedy"; maybe not as much flutter and drop out of the other overdrives. Surprise for me; expecting that Gibson humbuckers were obvious strong bests, was when I got an Ibanez synth or something flat triangle guitar; with a standard jack, and the big synthe plug-in: was that the Ibanez humbuckers are strong/low noise. Basically equal to the Gibsons. I had gone as far as testing the 50 year old Gibson : Balanced plug-in guitar: friggin 18 pounds of solid electric guitar. I am centered simple-minded, so I hate Gates. Instead, I got the Drawmer DF 320 floating Downward Expander. In time it worked getting out of the hunch. Joanne is the best.

Wonderfully passionate player and yet is still able to academically deconstruct her own playing, as she does here. SRV, otoh, couldn't really explain his own approach. His best sum-up was "floor it, with guesswork." He made a point of saying that the only times he got in trouble playing were when he started thinking too much. Musicians can be really superstitious about unpacking their "primary weapons." Bjork doesn't like to reflect too closely on her singing style. Paul McCartney has studiously avoided learning to read music, fearing that it'll sour his creative process. Yeah, that JST is able and willing to do this with any level of eloquence is kinda rare. The fact that she can draw equally from the head and heart is a real one-two punch.

I saw JST in Dublin, November 2015. I asked her after the show how to get to where she's at in terms of touring, getting your name out there, etc. She basically told me to get people who you love and who love you back around you, and then she told me the best advice that she should've known would have been to learn the business side of music. How to manage yourself, your name, your band, etc. I'll never forget the advice, super simple but really necessary. Thanks Joanne, hope to jam with you soon.

I like that about how she didn't have the discipline to really copy other guitarists. I've read that in a Samantha Fish interview and a Robin Trower interview too. And then, lots of guitar players learned by sitting down with records by their heroes and copying solos note for note. Sounds like work to me, get the pentatonic scale down and just make it up as you go is what I like to do. It's more fun than actually working at it.

I tried that actually 38 pound or so Gibson with Balanced Jack at Retro Music in southern New Hampshire; located in a state college town. Retro was its' name: > Vintage. If you want to, find the guy who owned Retro Music: to target specific Vintage gear that you are looking for. And, her might want something that you have. Today you can get the clear and dense Lead Sustain you want from many products. Previously you get grainy results which did not have the density of harmonic content in the tone. Think: Source Sound is first, and is different than Processed Sound. The Yamaha "Sound Reinforcement" (the meaning of "Unity Gain"??) book must be of value to the musician, even though it relates to Live Sound mechanics: because when Live Sound and Source Sound are junked or not defined, the Mud Honey Idea is for you to know. [Joanne is true form, but No Honey Products in a Hummingbird Feeder: only white sugar, No Honey Bread for feeding the beautiful birds at your fingertips.]. These Internet Concerts, live record: frequently Do Not MIx. What are you going to do about it? And make your own solid record, notes, about how you solved it, so that the Vinegar Genius gets more than "Did it. And Sleep". Hey. "Soul Station" at the Borderline. What is musical life in action, bud? Get real.

At Ronnie Guitar; Joanne actually knows a musical way that is different than "inside of" Pentatonic blues theory: the whole melodic harmonic. Our indo-asian blues does not conform to pentatonic theory:> because ours can be 11 tone scales. The 5th is 7 half-steps up from the Tonic; and sometimes we do not stress the 3rd. That is called, generically: an open 5th Chord. "MODULATE" means change the Key of the song during the song: which we do not do. "Modulation" sucks; and Downbeat Rhythm Structure sucks. Even in the West, there are numerous different sorts of blues form put-togethers. We never "com"-pose, because anybody who communicates is a commie. Joanne is with Joe Bonomassa sometimes. His Live Concerts Mix: each note of each instrument clear and known. Tell your buds: You are a blues rock musician, and you got to study. "Soul Station" at the Borderline.

What's up KZbin? My downloading programs don't work with any KZbin videos anymore. They used to work on everything and then official stuff wouldn't work and now not even stuff somebody recorded at a club on their smartphone can be downloaded. Damn it!! I want to download this. Who knows, I may lose my internet connection once I'm too broke to pay my bill, which I am already. If only my lazy wife would get a job to help out. LOL Fat chance of that ever happening.
