He definitely will. Joaquin Phoenix is one of those actors that deserves one a long time ago, and the Academy is building a track record of giving Oscars to great artists for movies that were good but weren't that amazing, as a sort of payback for all the ones they deserved in the past. Joker was definitely amazing, no matter what you think about the movie itself, Phoenix's performance was incredible. There's also that weird trend from last year about the Academy giving awards to superhero movies to like... get the mainstream audience or whatever. So I think all the pieces are in place for Joaquin to get his damn Oscar

"burning his face in acid" Wait, what? When does that happen? I thought the Joker fell into a vat of chemicals which made him look like that.
@DwanGarcez6 жыл бұрын
FriskyFox, acid is a type of fairly reactive chemical substance. You both said the same thing: he burns his face (not willingly, as an agent, but rather as an accident, ie "he gets his face burnt" would be more precise) by falling into a vat full of acid. Certainly the chemical substance in there could not have been a sort of base/alkali, considering the kind of wounds he sustained thereupon.

I feel like most people have forgotten that Heath Ledger's Joker was supposed to be a unique take on the character. He's not always meant to be this mysterious, unknowable force of nature. He's not Michael Myers. And this won't be the first Joker origin story we've seen. We all saw Jack Nicholson fall into a vat of acid in the original movie, that's what I always thought the Joker's origin was: he's a random two-bit criminal who suffered a freak accident and became the ultimate criminal. Pretty sure Alan Moore wrote The Killing Joke before the '89 Batman movie too, and I think the acid rebirth thing was established even before that. That said, I am intrigued by this. Phoenix is a phenomenal actor and excellent choice for the role. I hope Batman shows up, but not Bruce Wayne. If it's gonna be a stand-alone Joker movie then let it be that, and make Batman the enigmatic antagonist from his perspective.
@GarciaXVLegend_046 жыл бұрын
You are on point, NolanVerse Joker is supposed to be different & considering there's the show GOTHAM their Joker is different as well. Who knows how this Origin will be slightly different or the same.

Actually, no. He’s never had a definitive origin story. Not ever. The chemical vat thing originally came from The Killing Joke, and even that was portrayed as just a possibility just like all of the backstories he told everyone in The Dark Knight

hes great in You Were Never Really Here as an outsider, but if you need to see his acting chops, watch Walk the Line. more time on your hands? The Master, the id personified. Joker is tricky, hes the tempest personified (half storm, half laughing into the abyss) - hes a force of nature that doesnt need an origin, but with the right storymaker they can better sell the joker to general audiences that comic readers have gotten from stories like killing joke, or death of the family.

DC should just concentrate on self contained stories separate from any connected universe. That could give directors a lot more liberty to do what they want without corporate interference and the stories could be way more accurate adaptations of the original comic versions.(for example Civil War was a good movie but to be able to fit well into the mcu a lot of things were changed and altered and only left a couple of parallels and nods to the actual Civil War comic.) Me personally I would like a live action movie of the dark knight returns to make up for the abomination that was bvs. Someone mentioned that Willem Dafoe would be a great older Joker and I completely agree. After hearing David Harbour was working out for hellboy I think he definitely has the potential to be an awesome older batman. Those are my thoughts

WiiManElite yea of course but attachments to a movie universe also change a lot of things. Like using sokavia accords to regulate superhero activity. Maybe civil war was a bad example. Well think instead of bvs who because it was the beginning of a cinematic universe it tried to shove in so many things that didnt work well like doomsday and wonder woman and the other justice league members. Bvs would have been better as bvs only rather than as dawn of justice.

Just when I think I couldn’t like Jeremy any more than I already do he says he likes to talk about The Joker. I am so glad Geeks + Gamers posted a link to this channel a while back. I just wish I had found Jeremy years ago. This channel and Jeremy himself are real gems. Love you, Jeremy!

Only thing missing is that Paul Thomas Anderson is directing. Then I'm 100% sold on seeing this.

Pokermask Of course because Joaquin is the main star. XD I think he'd be a better choice to helm this movie than Hangover's Todd Phillips.

That moment you realise a small budget is 10 to 20 million -_-
@Pitbulljor6 жыл бұрын
Cole VanFossen yes but 10 to 20 million is alot. All u need for the effects and make up etc. Is 3 to 4 million
@TVgamesandvids6 жыл бұрын
Pitbull jor it’s relative. For a comic book superhero movie, 10-20 mil is incredibly small.

It'll be like 50million and be considered small budget.

Pitbull jor you just said, “yes but 10 to 20 million is a lot.” I’m telling you that 10-20 mil is not a lot.

Too late for that movies like Batman 1989, The Killing Joke, & the show GOTHAM basically showed his origin story yet they are different.

What I loved about the Ledger Joker was every time he mentioned his scars he had a different story and each one was believable.
@manthemanmantheman66116 жыл бұрын
you can keep the jokers backstory a mystery by not watching it.
@everythingisawesome29036 жыл бұрын
True. The best thing about Joker was mystery behind his origin, now they are making one and Joker won't be as menacing as before.

I thought that Joaquin Phoenix would be the original Joker and that they would explain that Jared Leto is another iteration of the Joker. Like the Jared Leto Joker is a successor of the original Joaquin Phoenix Joker.

I’m from the way way future, Joaquin Phoenix just won the Oscar for this role alone, so you could say yeah he’s done a good job as the joker. He really cared. He didn’t need jokes and pranks. His Oscar winning speech was also just As important. Going vegan is the best life choice I’ve ever made.

I wish there was a Joker origin story with Heath ledger. ☹️
@WhyTho5256 жыл бұрын

@TheBlackLodger6 жыл бұрын
Heck no. Him telling different origin stories just like Joker in the comics preferring his origin was "multiple choice", keeping his true origin under wraps, was perfect for his character. Although a comic spinoff that reveals his possible origin would be cool.
@WhyTho5256 жыл бұрын
The Black Lodger Yeah kinda like the Nolanverse version of the Killing Joke ?

I do think there is something to be said about Heath Ledger performance as The Joker that even studio heads and even actors who don’t read these comics are willing to take such a character from a performance stand point seriously. Sure the Joker has made his appearance on screen before but never like Heath Ledger! So with that in mind there is no way even filmmakers and audiences would accept anything less since the Dark Knight was 10 years ago but still brought us one of the most layered and compelling characters to ever exist in film history. Like Jered Leto before, Joaquin Phenix has some big shoes to fill but since we’re dealing with different actors he could still play him just about anyway he wants. And hey if the script is good it could be the role of a life time. I’m excited!
