Irish country singer Frankie McBride was a member of the Polka Dots showband during the great Irish showband years before he went solo and entered the cabaret scene. He was particularly noted for his covers of soulful ballads and enjoyed a successful chart career. First time I have heard this song or Frankie McBride. I went and had a listen to Don Mclean's original of the song 'Empty Chairs!' I have to be honest whilst I love Don Mclean's music, Frankie's rendition of this one drew me right in. I have fallen in love with this song so decided to find out a little bit about it and was surprised to learn that the title 'Empty Chairs' comes from Van Gogh's painting of a chair. The song is about loss and Frankie's gentle, mellow rendition captured the emotion of the song so beautifully.
