One thing I loved about Johnny Davy’s pig squeals is he was extremely good at enunciating the words so it didn’t just sound like “Brees” Like you can kind of hear the words in the pig squeals and when you develop an ear for harsh vocals and he says “entombment of a machine” you can hear it pretty clearly

This was my actual first time hearing this song! I got into deathcore a few years back (Primordial by Shadow of Intent), so I'm not familiar with the older waves of it. Back in 2006 I would have hated this. Heaviest I went then was Linkin Park and maybe the occasional Slipknot tune. Took me years to really slide into more heavier music, the big gateway bands being Bullet for my Valentine and Five Finger Death Punch. In this Moment helped too. Been a very wild, ride as far as my musical tastes go. This was dope though. Honestly I really like those lower toned pig squeals (and I can actually do them whereas the higher ones elude me) so that's cool.

I think the song that finally made me take the plunge into the screaming hell toilet was Behemoth's "At the Left Hand ov God." I had just gotten out of basic training (Air Force) and was going through tech school and fucking hated my room mate. I needed something heavy to vent with, and there was Behemoth, which a buddy of mine from high school always hyped up. But yeah, before that I was also the kid on the bus with Disturbed in his Discman. I wanted to sound like David Draiman (and still do, man's voice is incredible!) but ended up sounding like Johnathan Davis, which is fun for karaoke nights.

Also I vaguely recall the scream vocalist from 3 Inches of Blood being told by his doctor to stop screaming because he was going to lose his voice, which is why he quit the band. What a time that was. There's so many new sounds these days, but so many from back then that you just don't hear anymore just because it's not safe. That visceral brutality of someone literally destroying their throat on the mic is gone.
