I've only had 1 group interview and it took over an hour of us sharing our life story. One guy brought up his military experiences and everyone was super impressed and I was like, damnit I'm just a shy kid who likes to game and stay out of trouble. Suffice it to say I got the job, but ONLY because their other two choices (including that military guy) backed out, lol. The manager even told me that and I should have just walked out right there for her lacking so much tact. Turned out to be one of their top employees, so it goes to show you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

I just bombed a group interview at Toys 'R' Us. They had us try to sell something (even though I was applying for an off-hours warehouse job). I had to go first, & I tried selling my cellphone. This gave time for everyone else to prepare, who also chose their cellphones. Except for someone who tried selling his shoe, who also didn't get the job. We didn't even shake hands!

Here's my tip to stand out in a group interview. Stand up, and leave, tofind a company that will actually respect you enough to give you an actual interview instead of throwing you into a shark tank where everyone has to out-lick the boots of the company to get hired.

@@mythicmischief I guess it's your first job? Interviews are really not a big deal. If you want to prepare, google "Interview Questions examples" and prepare and re-hearse something to say for all of them in a way that makes you look and sound good. But yeah group interviews are kinda super demeaning :I

What should you do if people keep copying you in group interviews? This keeps happening and it's frustrating because I'm sharing my life and experiences with them. Then someone comes, steals my thunder, and gets the job. 😡

Maybe they weren't even copying you. Sometimes interview questions are so basic that there are only a few possible ways to answer them. If you feel like someone is copying you, use big intuitive words. If they use the same words they're copying you. If not that, they probably won't know what the words mean and be stumped. If someone needs to copying you in order to get up in life what do you think that means for them? It means they can't think for themselves. They may have gotten the job, but I doubt they'll last there long since the only way they got the job in the first place was from scrounging off of someone else.

Sometimes I feel like I don't get through because I am a little heavier then most people; or the employer is looking for someone better looking. I wish i could feel more confident in these situations :(

As introvert this kind of interview is a nightmare assuming you are qualified to the job description provided and hell you were shocked that you were involved kn that kind of interview, for me this kind if nightmarish interview saves time for the interviewer to select

How did you respond Stella Fuentes? We find that the best approach to this question is to be honest. If they do call your previous employer, at least you were truthful. Hopefully your previous employer will have great things to say about you!

Last week I was scheduled to go to an audition at Old Navy, but I had to call in and cancelled because I wasn't able to make it. The hiring manager said she will call me again if another job audition comes up. Should I wait for her to call or should I call in check? I don't want to seem desperate but I would love to work there. What are the chances of getting a call back though after missing the first time?

Hi pancakegurl107 - I think it's okay to call one more time and ask about the openings. It will show you are dedicated. But, I wouldn't push it more than that. You won't want to overwhelm them by calling too much. Good luck!
