Because : 1. The idea still fresh at that time. Still few film offering similar concept. 2. People in the old days tend to appreciate the movie they had watched, regardless its flaw. When they don't like it, they leave it. But today, people who don't like particular movie would spread critics and hatred to other audiences, with intention to bail that movie out. Hence they put filming industries in general into dilemma & unhealthy struggle.

Yeah, even after Prey has come out I still prefer Predator. Story flows much better, each character actually has personality. The brutality feels raw in Predator and has aged really well. Compared to Prey. Prey has very monotone story, characters and has too many inconsistencies that hurt the immersion of watching the movie. Prey is interesting in other areas but I’d still put Predator before it

And T2 was I think exactly 10 yrs later so just in 10 yrs time the special effects & CGI evolved sooo much but it was dope how Cameron used practical along with special effects! T2 is just hands down one of the best movies of all time & I think it's the undisputed GOAT sequel in movies history!

This is an absolute classic. It has a certain mysterious quality that is lacking in the other Predator movies (except possibly the second one with Danny Glover). These creatures have been hunting man for centuries, and it takes a hunter's skill and tactics to combat them. I'll never forget watching this with my dad so many years ago. It still ranks right up there on top amongst the best sci-fi/action movies ever made in my opinion. Looking forward to the newest one (PREY), because I heard it was really good.

I love the way the predator slowly turns his head to look at Dutch at that cocky, sideways, challenging to fight, saucy angle. The Predator was very majestic in his bearing, in the way he carried himself. He knew he was a hunter. His movements were always complete and precise, he always took his time, and he whenever he moved to strike, he never missed. The Predator was on a safari, but Dutch threw a wrench in his ego trip by outwitting him and wounding him, so, the Predator is ready to take Dutch on in hand to hand combat. I believe the Predator challenged Dutch in this fashion to satisfy his own ego on how much of a better warrior he was. It wasn't about proving how clever Dutch was. You can see that in the way the Predator growls ferociously every time he dealt Dutch a blow as if to say," How DARE you think you are badder than me? I mean, after all, Dutch did make the predator BLEED with weapons far more primitive than his own sophisticated, advanced ones. Dutch also made himself invisible, just like the Predator did. I enjoyed this scene and watching the display of strategy against strength. The predator is playing a game. It is a deadly game,, but a game nonetheless. Dutch is fighting for his life. There's a difference when you fight for your life.

I always had the feeling that the CIA knew, after running several operations in the area, and hearing stories of a “demon that makes trophies of men” that the predator may exist, and that after general hooper’s disappearance, sent Dillion, the “expendable asset” in to investigate. I very distincly remember my dad bringing this movie home from blockbuster. I remember seeing the title and thinking it was some sort of animal movie. The opening scene let me know i was wrong. The predator coming out of the water is awesome. It ranks just behind the firing line as the best scene in the franchise. Why TF can't they make a good Predator or Alien movie anymore? It's been trash since 1986/1987.

It comes down to demographics. The only profitable audience that attends films now is 14 year olds in the US and China. It's not that they can't make movies like this anymore, it just doesn't pay the bills.

Couldn't agree more. My dad bought this in those VCR tapes back then too. He would go on and on about it before the movie even started. I thought it was just another Action Syfy movie until it all started! Kept me on my toes every second until the end. After that it became my favorite film till date. Just as my dad I'd go on and on about it . I saw this film about a 100 times as a kid . Not even the newest predator film could beat this masterpiece. All the rest of the movies were shit after this

I was randomly flipping through channels and stumbled on this on daytime tv as a kid. It just kept getting better and better. I stuck around for the commercials with suspense and was like, woah, this is top notch.
