When an asteroid threatens to collide with Earth, NASA honcho Dan Truman (Billy Bob Thornton) determines the only way to stop it is to drill into its surface and detonate a nuclear bomb. This leads him to renowned driller Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis), who agrees to helm the dangerous space mission provided he can bring along his own hotshot crew. Among them is the cocksure A.J. I know this movie was cheesy and unrealistic for most of its part, but I saw one attention to detail at 0:17 when Lev told AJ to monitor the fuel gauge. He was holding a bunch of manual then just kind a throw it away. He probably just let go of the manual expecting it to float around since he was used to being in zero gravity for too long.

Definitely a Michael Bay film. Even benign things explode for no reason. How many things went disasterously wrong on the Russian space station?! I counted at least 5. Great for drama, as long as you have NO idea how mechanical systems work. With that many failures on a space station, the Ruskies couldn't even get a rocket a mile off the ground.

No. My sisters trash ex husband with an iq in the negative numbers just applied and was on a rig in a month. I bet there are drillers with a lot of knowledge but there are many with none. Unlike NASA were not only do they have to be in the greatest health and shape known to man, but their education and experience that allows them to become an astronaut requires pain, drive and ambition far beyond most human capabilities.
